I've got a 305 out of an 88 Iroc (it was a TPI) my friend I got it from sold the TPI setup. I have a holley street dominator carb 670CFM I need an intake, I found this one on e-bay a power plus crosswinds, but I've never heard of it and cant find any good info on it.. OR should I get a holley street avenger intake? I'm looking to end up with about 300 WHP& TQ through a stock 700R4 with a shift kit.
Now to explain why i'm using a 305, my firebirds 2.8 locked up (oil pump died) so I need a new engine, and he has one. He sold the TPI set up off it so I am converting it to carb. Just need help on intake selection.
I'm eventually gonna swap in an LS1 with a T56 once funds permit.
Thanks in advance.

300 RWHP is asking a lot from a 305. To get there without power adders, you're going to basically make it a beast to drive on the street. And, the intakes you are considering are going to be inadequate.
But, there are good intakes available to get the job done. One issue you are going to have to address is the intake bolt pattern on the heads. The center two bolts on each side are at a different angle than the rest of the bolts, something they started doing in 1987. Of course, by 1987, most of the engines they were building didn't have carbs, so the choice of carb intakes to fit that pattern are limited. The "fix" if you get the "normal" carb type intake is to elongate the bolt holes in the intake so you can get those bolts in. However, the Weiand 8024 Action + and Edelbrock 2604 Performer Air Gap are available and have the proper bolt pattern. Be aware that they don't have EGR provision, but perhaps that isn't a concern to you. They are a bit pricey, but be aware that the Crosswind manifolds are imported knockoffs of Edelbrock manifolds - some say they are okay, others indicate they have cost them some power. For a "temperary" installation like you're indicating you have in mind, it would probably be okay - just don't expect 300 RWHP with one on a 305.
What you should know is going from a V6 to a V8 isn't exactly a straight-forward proposition in 3rd gens. Go over to the Engine Swap forum and read my "Important/Useful Information" sticky at the top of that forum for more details.
I've read that post very imformative. I gusse I'm just gonna get the holley intake for now then. the guy I'm getting the engine from is basicly my best friend, and preaty much were just gonna take every thing off the iroc and put into my firebird.
I figured 300 was asking too much. Oh well, I'll just get it high enough to be fun ^_^
I was gonna go with the 300-70 unless there is a good reason the 300-64 costs more and has a lower powerband than the 300-70.
Acording to the jegs listing, the 70 has a power band from ide-7200RPM while the 64 is only to 5800 RPM. But yet the 70 is 156 and the 64 is 161 $ ? dose that make sence?
Also, I just got the carb in the mail today and the choke thermostat is busted (got it off e-bay, looks like it was USPs fault that it was busted) I cant find that part on holleys site (its a little metal circular spring thing that is really simple, its held on by three philips head screws, and seems like it would be a standard replacment part...)
You wouldent happen to know what that part number would be would you?
After reading through the instructions, I think its actually the choke thermostat cap retainer, because the instructions describe what it is, they just used a differnt name than the picture of the carb did..
