I think i have a Carb issue.. Enter please

Well the other day I went to work parked the car went in came out went to lunch came back parked the car went back in. Now it was time to go home went out car noticed I looked my keys in the car and had the keys in the ON position in the ignition. Got someone to unlock the car. Car starts fine put it in D put my foot on accelerator not even pressing it but resting my foot on it car died. I think odd. Start the car again ran fine put it in D put my foot on the gas died again. At this point I'm like WTH. Try starting the car again nothing she just keeps cranking. Now I get someone out to try and jump it thanking I might have killed the battery or alternator because when I got the car running the alternator was at like 10amps but nothing just keeps cranking. So we leave it come out the next day and replace alternator and battery fires right up and dies really quick. Started again fires right up and dies again this process continued 2 or 3 more times. We pull the air cleaner off and its latterly dripping with fuel but we have no idea were all the fuel is coming from it was all over the top/inside of the carb and choke plate. We asked a few people what they thought it was they said sounds like I have a stuck float flooding the engine. Told us to take the blunt end of a screwdriver and tap on the bowls so we did ended up tapping to hard and knocking the bowl loose a little. At the time we did not notice the bowl leaking from the under side and the car started and ran till it ran out of fuel. We tighten the bowl screws fixed the leak and tried starting it again and it would start and die instantly again. And there was gas all over the carburetor again. I don’t know what else to do no one is open on holidays. I don’t know how to take the carburetor apart to see if the float is stuck but when the carburetor was on the car the fuel in the bowls was at the top line on the sight both front and rear.

I guess the really question is how do I take the fuel bowl off. I thought it was the 4 screws in the front but still seems to be stuck. And I am afraid to pull to hard cause I'm not sure if there is something else that needs to be loosened first before taking the fuel bowl off.

Took the carb to a shop today they took it apart said everything was still good reset the setting dropped it back on and still having the problem. I had it towed to a shop and they said the timing chain is broke I guess that’s the strange clicking I heard from the front of the motor.

What type of carb is it? is it the stock ccc-qjet? if so it could be an ECM problem or a sensor problem that is causeing it to flood itself out.

What I thought was flooding is actually the valves opening at inappropriate times cause fuel to blow up thought the carb.

im no gm certified mechanic but i think you might have just killed your electric choke. try wiring the choke open or use the screwdriver to hold the choke flap open wile someone starts it.

Been there done that with a bad chain!Getting it fixed?

The 'ole addage

90% of carb problems..aren't really carb problems. It usually ends up being something else causing it.

K fixed now I got a really bad lifter or rocker tapping I know it's on the drivers side other than that I cant tell what it its. Could I have hurt something cranking with the valve timing wrong? It runs awesome I mean absolutely awesome but the tapping is horrid at anything other than cruse speeds. I also when from 10w30 to 5w30 synthetic could the lesser weight done it?
