Hi, I had a problem with my car running rich. I noticed my TPS sensor voltage was off and I also wanted to check all the adjustments, so I opened up the Quadrajet. I gave it a quick cleaning and reset the lean stop, rich stop, and replaced the TPS. Before I button this up though I need to check the float. Using a caliper I found that my float level is set to 1/8" off of the carb body. Unfortunately I'm having some trouble in finding a factory spec. I have the Haynes manual and Doug Roe's book, but they don't have the spec. Anyone know for sure what the float level spec is for an 85 CC Quadrajet, before buttoning it up?
Well I have varying specs for the early years. My 82 service manual specs 11/32" for all 4 carburetor numbers as measured 3/16" from end of float. Looks to be at about the widest part of the float. My Haynes specs 13/32" for all 82s and varies from 4/32-13/32" for 83 and 84 depending on the carburetor number. I recently readjusted the basic specs on mine to net me around 35 deg dwell but don't remember where I set the float, forgot to write it down. Possible it's between 1/4-3/8". I have the rest of my specs so far. Sorry, I don't have any specs for 85-up. Can you post back with your carburetor number and I can see if it is on the Haynes list?

The number from my carb is 17085207. I have the Haynes Carb book, but I don't recall seeing a spec sheet. Do you have the same book? If so can you point me to a pg #? Thanks for the help.
The book I have is the Owners Workshop Manual for 82-87 Firebirds, basically a small shop manual, which was better than the early Chilton's of that time. The carb #'s only go up to 84. It's not as complete as it should be. It also does not break down the 4bbl carb as it claims it's too complex and needs to be taken to the dealer and/or adjustments. Yeah right, in thier dreams. Your #, being a "5207" denotes an 85 judging by what I see in the OWM that I have, the fifth digit matching the year of the car. There is a "17082207" listed in my 82 service manual, which spec'd 11/32" but I'm not saying that is the same carb. I also have the Doug Roe(spelling) Rochester book but can't seem to remember where I put it last, too many moves but I keep an eye out for it.

Duh, I didn't think to check the Chilton's manual I have for the spec. Guess I relied on it being in the two new carb books I bought. Anyway it reads a spec of 11/32".
