Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

It's a 17058213, and I don't know the difference between M4ME and E4ME. Do you know what type this is. I'm putting it on my camaro with an Edelbrock intake, just because all this electrical crap has stopped my carb from working properly. Weekend project before she hits the streets. Can anyone tell me which diagram to look at? Thanks!

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

An E4ME is a computer-controlled electronic feedback carb, an M4ME is the older non-computer version.

M4ME it is then. Any additional information I should know before commencing the rebuild?

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

Not really, it's pretty straight forward. It's pretty much the same effort to rebuild that M4ME as it would be to do the stock E4ME. You'll probably want to epoxy the well plugs in while you've got it apart.

You know you'll have to change the distributor if you get rid of the stock carb?

What I think you should know:

Follow the instructions in the rebuild kit to the letter. Make adjustments as detailed in the instructions for your carb number.

Use a good dip-type carb cleaner. Spray type is okay for flushing, but not for cleaning.

Check for warped air horn - very common on old q-jets.

Use compressed air to blow out all passages after soaking in the carb cleaner. If you don't have a compressor, a can of spray carb cleaner with the little nozzle tube will do.

I've had a lot of different q-jets over the years, this CC q-jet is the best one I've ever owned or worked on.

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

Glad you like at least one of my decisions.

Yeah, I'm aware about the regular distributor, I have 6 of them lying on a shelf in order of shape.

I'll definitely follow your instructions fiveseven. I do believe I have some dip, and I have a compressor as well. (Why I have dip, I do not know...)

Wish me luck!
