There are a lot of holes in your information, so we'll have to make some assumptions in order to answer your questions.
The stock carb (assuming this isn't a Canadian-delivered vehicle) is computer controlled, as is the distributor. Replacing one requires replacing the other, so you need a distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance built in.
If you have a stock intake manifold, you will need an adapter to go from the spreadbore intake to the squarebore carb. That should move you out of the way of the vacuum ports hitting anything. The preferred approach would be to put on an intake manifold that has the square pattern mount built into it.
The transmission requires a cable connection that mimics the stock geometry. The easiest way to do this is buy a TV correction lever (aka - "adapter") that bolts to the carb throttle arm (I used the Summit unit SUM-700202). And, you'll need a throttle cable stud, unless you don't mind the old bolt-in-the-throttle-arm-hole-with-double-nut routine.
