How do you adjust carb?
Hello, been trying to figure out how to adjust my 4 brrl holly carb to pass emissions, I failed the idleing part , I replaces spark plugs, got a new k & n X-Stream air filter, any ideas how i can further improve my results in the idle edmissions, as it was running slightly rich, Thanks alot, need help fast as my tabs are due.

Q-jet is short for "quadrajet", what GM called their spreadbore 4 barrel carb. It was the stock carb on '82-'87 f-bodies with carbs, although in a computer controlled version.
If you are failing the sniffer at idle, lean out your idle mixture via the screws on each side of the primary metering block.
Holley's website has technical information links that describe how the systems work and how to adjust them.

Im trying to figure what screws they are, its hard to tell from the drawing on the Holly site directions, Does anyone have a pic of where these screws are, that would be great, even a better diagram.
Maybe if someone can circle the screws or area of the screws on a pic even would be HUGE help. Thx

right behind the front float bowl there is a metering plate with a small screw on each side at the bottom. thats what yuor looking for. an old trick i use to use when we had inspections was to pull just outside the inspection station and retard the timing while upping the idle so the thing would run like crap but just roll into the station. pass with no problem. then pull out and put it back. just mark your dizzy and count idle turns. alawys worked here.

Re: How do you adjust carb?
Found the screws, Thanks , I leaned them about 1/4 a turn in, idle dropped from 1000-1100 at idle to about 840-900, the rpm moves slightly up and down, i think the idle needs tuning, but Im going to wait till my K&N X-stream air filter to get to then take the test, I think it should pass, The idle limit at emissions is 12, last time i took the test my car got 14.2 at idle. I smelled the exhaust seems to smell slightly less rich. hopefully this will do the job.
