Carb opinions?
Hey guys, got another annoying "what carb should I use" question. Specs are in sig.
Approx 400hp on the engine, this is mostly a street car, summer use only.
Thanks for any advice you guys have, i'm a diesel mechanic but I don't know jack **** about carbs

Re: Carb opinions?
Greetings, fellow diesel tech!
Now is the time! If you are smart enough to work on diesel engines and understand how their fuel systems work, then you are smart enough to do computer tuning with your laptop.
My vote is a computer quadrajet with an EST HEI distributor. Let your engine computer run the fine tuning after you make it right and lock up your converter at the appropriate times. You'll have the best of everything with power and mileage.
There are some pretty stout 383's running the same specs as you around here with the CC Quadrajet. I think 57kid is running that...
Search up that. It'll be a few hundred bucks but you'll be really happy!

Re: Carb opinions?
I should elaborate, the 750 on the car is vacuum secondaries and it's junk, throttle shaft has massive play (vacuum leak) and the carb is real old. Time for a new carb, i'm also looking not to spend much cash as i have a diesel hot rod also which I would prefer to invest my money into. But i don't want to play with rebuilding this carb so thats not an option. I just want to get this camaro running nicely again. I was think a holley 670 street avenger might be good for my application.

Re: Carb opinions?
best choice is a 750 double pumper holley, 750 proform, quick fuel etc, with mechanical secondaries.

If you don't have a CC carb, it's hard to justify installing one. But, if donor equipment is available, maybe.

Quadrajets are the best street carbs ever made!! If you have a computer now, set up the carb and have a chip made. If not, just get the Q-Jet and you will have the best mileage and least trouble of any carb!!!
If you need help tuning, get the Cliff Ruggles book.

Re: Carb opinions?
I have a 400hp 440tq motor with a 700r4 and use a speed demon 650ve, after the dyno tune it proved it was better than getting the 750 which lost torque off the bottom end. If you plan on running over 6500rpms then go with the 750.
