recently my 1406 started stumbling at initial accel and it is upseting me and I was wondering if any of you guys are getting the same thing. its on a mild 350 with a 5speed behind it.
I have read that edelbrocks are not the best carb for manual trans but havent a clue why
also my 350 starts right up when it is cold and it will start right up when warm if you do not wait a long time. it its more than 5 min wait time it is really hard to start
thanks for all the help you guys have givin me over the years, my vehicles would not be at the level they are without you!!!

How old is the carb?

Popular wisdom says that the secondary air door will shut when you lift off the gas to shift, and then it'll have to open again when you get back on it. It may be objectionable or may be not, but there's no easy way to adjust it's behavior.

How is the choke adjusted?

Reason: Automerged Doublepost
If it's been sitting, it might have developed gum and varnish in some of the passages. Try flushing out the transfer slots and idle ports with carb cleaner. If that doesn't fix the problem, it might need a more thorough cleaning.
The air valve (or air door) is the flap that covers the secondaries. In an Edelbrock Performer, it's held closed by counterweights until there's enough demand through the secondaries to pull them open. The only way to alter it's opening and closing behavior is to modify the weights. Other carbs (Quadrajet, AVS, Thermoquad) use adjustable spring tension to control the secondary air valve, and vacuum secondary Holleys use spring tension to directly control the opening of the secondary throttle plates. Either approach offers more tunability than is easily possible with the Performer.
Is the choke open or closed when it's hard to start?
