I have tried everything. I have advanced my timing insanely and even retarded it. I have changed metering rods and hangers. My Q-Jet won't stop bogging. I have a 1986 LG4 and it hates me. The only way to make my car stop bogging is to tape the secondary AV's down. I have used the stock K hanger with CK rods i have used a G hanger with CK and CC rods. The AV spring is broken. I used rubberbands to hold it back. They worked sorta.... I thought for performance you could lossen your AV spring and open it up to 90 degrees (Max Flow) and use a G hanger and CC rods? Every time i floor it cuts out and when i slightly let off it comes back. It only doesn't bog at like 4,000 rpms or more. With the secondary AV taped down i didn't really feel to much of a power lose unless it was 4K or higher. It just didn't bog. What do i do to tune my Q-Jet to max performance with no bogging???
Are the Edlebrock Performer carbs similar to Q-Jets. Will I encounter the same problems with an Edlebrock 1406 Performer 600cfm carb?
Please help me before i start beating this carb with a sledge hammer.

Best 1/4mile time: 15.4sec @ 91mph -before intake, carb, 3.73s and distributor swap
If it's bogging when the secondaries are opening, you've got way too little tension on the secondary AV, and/or your secondary dashpot is leaking and needs to be replaced.
The Performer is an older, simpler design that's somewhat similar to the Qjet in its operation. The secondary AV operation isn't adjustable at all.
The Edelbrock won't mount to your manifold, so you'd need to change it. You could use an adapter, but that'll cost you power. You'll also need to replace your distributor for a non-computer one.
In the long run, you're better off figuring out what's wrong with your Qjet.
o yeah i know. I am. StreetFire MSD HEI distributor, 2601 intake manifold with that edelbrock carb. Do you know what will happen if i just remove my computer. What else will i lose?
Agreed. Fix the A/V spring (requires removing the air valve shaft from the carb) and you probably need a new vacuum diaphragm on the front/pass. side of the carb as well. You can run almost nothing for A/V tension if the vacuum diaphragm is working properly- most parts store replacements open REAL SLOW and can do almost all the work of keeping you out of a bog by themselves.
When was the last time you replaced the timing chain? Old age lends itself to excessive chain strech. This would throw the timing off just enough every time you punched a load.
My Q-Jet bogs as well, but only off idle. If I'm already driving it runs fine with no issues but if I punch it from a light, it hesitates, the whole car feels like it's going to die, and then I take off tires screaming... i'd like to eliminate the whole car trying to die part and just get right to the "tires screaming"...any ideas? My car is an 1984 T/A, L69 carbureted, 3.73 gears and a 700R4.
yeah man just get a reman off summit for 300. i took that lil lever off that stops the secondarys from opening when its supposed to so now i can just push the throttle and they all open anytime just cuz its a old q jet that i just used to start my motor before i get a reman one and it would bogg like that. so just get a reman
haha o ok. I've heard some things about edelbrock but i got it cheap so im not gonna complain. My friends got a holley and its not treating him much better. I respect your opinion of edelbrock.
hey street lethal can you respond to my other thread since your in the NJ area. And whens pinks start? aren't you going to that?

Don't get me wrong, Edelbrock makes a very reliable carburetor that isn't as prone to leaking issues. It will do you well, and will help you get a feel for some tuning. It's just when it comes to the track though....

Yeah, I'm going as a spectator, Click Here. There are a few people I know that are racing, one Grand National, and the other a LS1 GTO. Not too big a fan anymore of Pinks, I was in the beginning, but now it's getting a little out of hand (as do all shows, eventually)....
Also, I can recommend a few shops for you, I'll post them later on for ya....
