electronic q-jet vs edelbrock vs holley

I am building my 84 T/A with a 327 which according to desktop dyno should be good for about 300-330hp (says 327) and have several carb choices available luckily..

Options:
1. edelbrock 1411 750cfm bbl.. i think the best choice.. I just rebuilt it, have a kit for adjustments, and is in great shape..
2. stock 305 electronic q-jet from this 1984 T/A.. know nothing other than it powered this 165(?) hp beast off the factory floor.. looks like it too
3. stock 305 electronic q-jet from a 1984 monte carlo ss
.. i would guess it is identical to the carb above..and looks the same..
4. Holley 750 double pumper which i know little about other than "it leaks like a sonuvabtch and has never run well in any car it's ever been put in"
5. 2bbl from 67' chevy pickemup..

my problem.. i have destroyed countless q-jets by trying to fix them despite the good ive heard about their performance potential...and I dont know how the car will respond to not seeing a computer controlled qjet.. i dont know how the computer controls this car, but i guessed perhaps trans problems..

The edelbrock is clean, rebuilt and f'ing simple..

The holley ive heard is the best choice if it is put together well (like i can pull that off)..

The 2bbl I know works.

any help?

Thanks!@!@!

Re: electronic q-jet vs edelbrock vs holley

The 2bbl won't even fit on your manifold, so don't worry about it.

The 750 double pumper might be too much carb for a 327 anyway. It'll work fine, but you'll have to use a big pump shot to keep it from bogging, and that's not going to be good for mileage.

The 2 E4ME Qjets will be more or less the same. They might even be outfitted identically. If you kept the computer, and you could rebuild one and were more confident about being able to get it dialed in, the Qjet would give you better fuel economy and driveability than the Edelbrock, and at least as much power.

The Edelbrock is a dead simple design, and because it's so simple, there's not a lot that can go wrong with it, but at the same time there's not all that much that can be done with it either. On the other hand the few tunable parts that it has are readily available. A 750 is a little big for a 327 though, a 600 might be better.

Depending upon the particulars, I just might take the 2 bbl over the Edelbrock.

Pretty much what Aperion said about the Holley.

I've had several q-jets over the years. The main problem I've seen with them is a distorted air horn, either by ham-fisting them when disassembling without taking the two screws in the primaries (under the choke butterfly), or overtightening the screws upon reassembly.

The best of all the q-jets I've ever had is the E4ME. Higher quality build in general, easy to adjust, supports 400 HP easily. Self-adjusting for everyday use. Power tuning is easy, just replace rods/hanger.

Probably the biggest advantage is it works with the TH700R-4 without modification. If you go with any of the other carbs, you'll have to correct the geometry for the TV cable, and rig up means to lock the TCC.

i wouldn't recommend edelbrock if your going to be drag racing at all! ive got a 600cfm on my 350 in my 84 and on the street its an animal, but at the strip it isnt designed to be drag raced. everyone says to go with holley theres infinite parts available for them.
