Need help, after swapping CC Qjet carb to 650 Edelbrock carb

I bought my car back in 1983. It is a 1983 Z28 Camaro L69 5.0 H.O. 5 speed. Came stock with fiberglass hood, dual snorkel air intake, electric fan, and an emissions fan which is located under the right front fender with a hose running under the air intake, usually comes on after the car is shut-off runs for about 20 minutes, car also has T-tops and lidded trunk.

While I was overseas my car sat for about 4yrs, when I got back I replaced my CC Qjet with another CC Qjet car ran like a raped ape......then all of a sudden one day I started to lose horse power and speed, the car labored getting up to 50 mph....found out that my CAT was collapsed which caused the tubes on the exhaust manifolds to burn holes in them and alot of those little hoses (1/4 inch diameter) to get damaged. Also my HEI coils were burning out.

Anyway when I started working on it I noticed my smog pump was seized up
and needed replacing along with my HEI Dist, exhaust manifold tubes, CAT, 1/4 inch diameter hoses and other parts. (real expensive)

I recently swapped out the CC Qjet carb with a Edelbrock 650 CFM with vacuum secondaries along with an Edelbrock performer intake manifold, Mallory HEI dist, and a Holley electrical external fuel pump. (car originally had a mechanical pump.

Hooked up everything, car sounds and runs good......Only Main Question Is...
how can I still get my elect fan to work off the sensor or for that matter how can I get all my guages including tach to work the same before the swap?

Also does not having the computer hooked up make it charge different? Any comments or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, none of that goes through the ECM.

Re: Need help, after swapping CC Qjet carb to 650 Edelbrock carb

I appreciate you answering back!!! One more, well maybe more than one more question...does the dist HEI non computer affect the tach reading, because it stays pegged out once the car starts, also the fan sensor used to kick on the fan at 220 degrees, now I have to run it through a switch and do it manually...is there any way I can run it through s sensor? The sensor is located on the water neck of the intacke manifold (real easy to reach). If it is possible, do you know how to route the wires? Again, any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Again!!

Thanks for responding...I have a few more questions if you don't mind. Does it make a difference to the tach that it is not a computer controlled HEI dist? reason is because when I turn the car on the tach stays pegged out even if the car is idleing at 1K rpm. Also is there a way that I can hook up my sensor for my electric fan instead of using a switch? It uses the sensor located in the water neck of the intake manifold, it used to kick on at 220 degrees automatically, if there is a way, do you know how to wire it to the sensor? Any input would be appreciated, Thanks Again!!!

The sensor in the thermostat housing is for the ECM only. The fan switch is in the passenger side head between the last two spark plugs.

The tach input is the same for CC or non-CC HEI. Something else isn't right. I'm not sure what signal would peg it, but I'd check all of the connections in the distributor, especially the ground strap.

mine pegs sometimes too after i wired my fans to the ignition, usually have to rev it up a couple of times or turn off the fan for it to come down and work
