Hi all, I'm finally upgrading the IROC's engine. It's going to be a 383 with iron eagle platinum heads (215cc runner), hooker 2055 headers, Xtreme Energy Cam XR276HR. I'm looking for a little advice.
I have the hood off a 90's camaro (I think). I have a 14x3 air cleaner (K&N with the filter top). What would be a good intake and carb setup for this engine? I was leaning toward a 750 Holley double pumper, or a street demon, but am not sure what intake manifold to run because of hood clearance issues. What intake manifolds are people running with the stock hoods? Does anyone have an input on the weiand street fighter? I'm looking for a dual plane manifold. If I can fit an RPM Airgap, that would be ideal, but I really doubt it.
i know u can fit a normal edelbrock performer with a 4150 series holley carb ...i honestly think u might beable to get the 4150 series and an airgap intake as long as u have a the right aircleaner....i have one with a 1 inch spacer on mine but ido have the ss hood...hopefully someone can give u a definitive answer cause the airgap is where its at...

If you want to tell me im a jerk save it ive heard it all before....
I am running the RPM air gap under a 92 Z hood with blisters. I have a drop base air cleaner, 2in filter and a 1/2 in spacer. Im also running a Holley 750 street HP carb. Its very close but it fits. Even without the spacer, I couldnt run a 3" filter.
Oh yeah, I have the xe282hr cam and the intake works great with the cam. Your cam is close in specs with mine, so it should be a strong runner.
I run a 14x3 dropbase with a hollley 770 and edelbrock RPM intake little rubbing on the top of the hood but no major issues. Also have a 1/2in plastic spacer on the airhorn so the cleaner clears the carb. Stock PB hood.

im runnin a holley 650 DP with air gap intake and a 3" air cleaner non drop base. its tight and you have to cut away a smal small amount of bracing (doesnt make my hood flimsy). also that carb is probably way to big.it seems people overdo the carbs all the time on here. im runnin a fairly beefed up setup with a 650 and its just perfect for it there should be no need unless your making crazy hp or something to go with a 750 dp. just my opinion. gl
I'm glad to hear that a 3" air cleaner will work (I already have one from the previous set up). As for going to big with a carburetor, I have seen that a lot of times people put a bigger carb than is needed for their application. It happens though. I'm looking at making ~450 crank hp (give or take about 20). There was an article in Car Craft a while ago with a very similar build to what I am going to be running, and their engine dyno clocked 470hp. So, I was planning on running a 750 dp, but if I could go a little smaller, say a 700, I wouldn't have any problem with that. Regardless, I was just trying to verify hood clearance with an airgap RPM because that is the intake I want to run, and now that I know I can, I most likely will. I have 1 1/4" drop top with the air cleaner with no spacer, so hopefully all will go well. I will let everybody know. Poly mounts aren't going to hurt hood clearance too much are they?
I dont know how the bracing is under a stock RS hood, but on a 91-91 Z and the Iroc hood, the studs for the blisters/louvers drop down. Also the bracing drops for the insets. This might cut clearance down compared to a RS hood.
Anyone have a under hood pic of the bracing on a RS hood to compare?
