Just bought an '84 Camaro Z28. It was a beater, and I have my work cut out for me, this I know. At present, I'm trying to rebuild the carb (the E4ME). Everything came off swellingly, with the exception of the choke housing. I pulled that off when I saw that part of it was already broken, specifically two of the screw-holes that hold the electric choke cover and stat assembly. The rest of the carb appears to be okay, I have most everything I need, but can't seem to find this housing anywhere.
long story short: Where can I find an electric choke housing for the e4me? Yes, I saw the WTB section of the forums, but if possible, I'd like to buy from someone reputable... if that makes sense.
Both places said no way they could get that without ordering the whole carb (which I'll probably do, anyway...) and that I'd probably end up at the dealer.
Everyone else had already closed before I could check them. There's a Kragen and a little hole-in-the-wall place nearby, I'm going to check them tomorrow, as well as the Chevy dealer, but that last one scares me. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any place that specializes in carb parts.
@Alicat: didn't see anything at carburetion.ca, I'll call both tomorrow. Thanks for the links. How much would you like for the base? Any chance you can send pics?
@Apeiron: Today, I checked Kragen, Napa, Star (local place), and the Chevy dealership. The former three all told me "Good luck." The chevy dealership found one for $80.
@chads: $10? Same question, any chance I can get some pics?
Also, feel free to correspond (for the pics) at my e-mail: fire.master14@gmail.com
I have the carb minus the air horn,so say,$25 plus whatever the postage would be.I would put it in a small as possible box,to minimize postage.let me know if you still want pics.
@ Alicat: I just realized you're in Australia. As great of a deal as $25 is, and by all means correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm probably looking around $150 AUD or so (which for me would be ~ $100 USD) just for shipping. That's a bit much for me right now.
@ chads89ta: That does help. If I can get some pictures, I'll take that housing off your hands.
Yes,that's the trouble for us here in aus. When I bought my carby out of california, the shipping was $75 USD,and it was in a bigger box than neccessary.
I try not to buy much when the exchange rate is down like it is at the moment.
Hey, Chad. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, been busy w/ work and rebuilding the carb.
Thank you VERY MUCH, again, for the thermostat housing. I received it last week, finally got a chance to drill out the one rivet and tap the thread today; got the carb completely rebuilt (well, the MAJOR stuff, like gaskets and what not. The jets were in surprisingly great shape, but by the time I NEED to replace those, I'm going to swap the carb entirely...) and back on the block tonight. She's running great at idle and low-mid throttle, but I have some tuning to due, as I'm flooding the engine at WOT. That's on tomorrow's list.
