Does anyone have a part number for a replacement sending unit for original carb cars, specifically I have a 1984 L69 that was from upstate NY, and I have a replacement tank and straps, but cannot find anyone who knows which model tank sending unit will fit my car without dropping the tank. The car is my daily driver, and I cannot afford to begin a project and not finish in the same weekend. I need/want to replace the tank, because it is covered in rust (especially in the seams), and I do not want to risk a leak.

K&N air filter, 16" fan on at 160 and 14" fan on all the time, 180 degree thermostat, Catco Cat, DynoMax Cat-Back Exhaust, and rebuilt and beefed transmission.
I'm moving this to its own thread (I was very clear the sticky was not to be used to post about anything other than converting an in-tank electric pump pick-up to manual).
You can't replace the pick-up without dropping the tank.
An '84 L69 should have an in-tank electric fuel pump. So, any EFI tank/pick-up should work.
I apologize. I was just looking for a quick part number. I replaced my fuel pump on the block, and with the exception of the internet, the local parts stores and dealers look at me like I'm stupid when I ask if my car had the helper pump in the tank or not and for a part number.
I'm aware I need to drop the tank, but I cannot afford to drop it unless I have all the parts on hand. So fuel pump and pick up unit part numbers would help.
When I looked at the GM Parts Catalog at our local AC Delco store they showed me pictures of about twenty sending units / fuel tank pick units that should fit, but they informed me that the fuel guage sender unit may have different resistance levels, etc. that make the guage read properly. I'm not an expert and I still have a lot to learn, thanks for any and all advice.

I'm not clear as to why you need a different pick-up. Just take the one out of your tank (assuming you aren't having problems with it), put in a new electric pump while you're at it, and install it in the new tank.
The resistance for the gas gage never changed over the 3rd gen years. Specifics of the tank and pick-up did change, but the mounting in the tank and gage sending unit operation did not change.
For the electric pump, try www.partsamerica.com. Put in your vehicle year, make, model, and pick the "VIN G" option. Carter p/n P60293 and Master E3106 will be a couple of the choices, which are the in-tank electric pump.
In the past, when I changed my ex-wifes and my neighbor did theirs on late 90's cars (monte carlo, taurus, and mustang) the sending/pickup units were rusted/fused to the tanks. So in an effort to be prepared for the worse case and give myself peace of mind I wanted to replace the part or at least have it on hand.
My understanding is that early L69's did not receive a helper pump in the tank, is that correct? I think mine rolled off the assembly line in Feb 1984 (I may have to double check that).
Thanks for the information. Also, does it matter that my fuse block does not have terminals for a fuel pump?

84Camaro_L69, you are correct, '83 and early '84 L69 cars did not come with the in-tank helper fuel pump from the factory. There was a dealer installed kit released and many of the earlier cars had it installed. Open the hood and look to the right of the brake booster you will see several relays attached to a bracket on the firewall. If there is one relay mounted to a little L-shape bracket and sort of looks out of place then the car has the electric helper pump.
I checked my Apr. '95 edition of the 82-92 GM Master Parts microfiche and all of the L69 fuel senders were discontinued except for the '85 model year. The part number is 25090108. I imagine even that one is long gone by now.
If it helps, I just pulled mine from the tank. Model FEH. I'm sending mine out to be rebuilt.. If you dont need the sending unit with the pump, I just bought a used one from a board member that i wont be using. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/ca...ml#post4207091 (2 fuel pumps?)

Check the plug for the sending unit, located on the rear frame rail on the drivers side. If it's got 2 wires, it doesnt have in the tank pump. If it has 3 wires, it has the in tank pump.
