Shopping list for first QJet rebuild

For reference, it's a Quadrajet (17086005)

So, I'm ordering the stuff I'm assuming I'll need for the rebuild, And would appreciate someone with a little more know how than me, making sure I'm not buying something i wont need, or missing something i'll need and not have.

http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/kits/CK358.htm - Rebuilt Kit
http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/floats/f20.htm - Float (I've read on here you mine as well replace this while you're in there)
http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/chokes/CC139.htm - Choke coil

Now on this last one, it says its a direct replacement, so is it not whats on this QJet stock? Does it have a hot air on it right now?

I'm also curious about wether i should buy a choke pulloff as well.

I suspect the choke currently isn't functioning .

Btw, I've read on here you should fix a fault in the original design? and JB Weld some type of plugs toward the bottom? But that was a while back, and i cant seem to locate that thread (searched), if anyone has it in bookmarks or can explain a little more, it would be appreciated.

Re: Shopping list for first QJet rebuild

Your Qjet has an electric choke, which is what that coil is for. They're just saying it can also be used to convert an integral hot air choke to electric. You can get a new choke pulloff, but it's easy enough to replace after the fact, too.

there is thexton 362 tool kit which contains the 2.5 mm hex socket and 2,7,10 double D sockets and thexton 370 gauge kit to set lean, rich screws and idle air bleed valve on ebay now. They're hard to come by.

Re: Shopping list for first QJet rebuild

when get your rebuild kit be sure it has an accelerator pump or at least a pump cup included in the kit befor opening. once you open it they probably wont let you return it for a refund. just ran into this yesterday when rebuilding my e4me, and the cup was shot. ihad to buy another kit that cost a little more. also be sure it is the correct kit, the first kit i bought was acctualy for the mcme even though autozone told me it was for the e4me,guess i should have paid closer attention. lesson learned! hope this helps.

Re: Shopping list for first QJet rebuild

Advance has carb adjustment tools like Apeiron's for $8 or $10; it has the "D" socket you need to adjust idle after the carb is back on the car. They also have accurate metal gauges (rulers) to 1/64" for ~6. Summit has carb stands for 20 to 30 (couple different models) or make one. Autozone sells Berryman carb cleaner with a soaking tray in the 1 gallon can.

Incorrect for E4ME. See the sticky for the proper start point.
