Does an air cleaner from a TBI fit on the CCC Rochester? This one on a 4.3L V-6 looks to have a much bigger hose than stock air cleaner that came with carb'ed 305. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f2...320/stock3.jpg
I have a very similar air cleaner off my TBI big block. I tried fitting it against a carb one day- fit like a glove. However, I used a Holley carb for the testing. A Qjet uses the same diameter air cleaner flange, but I couldn't say for certain it would definitely fit. Watch the clearance on the underside of the air cleaner with the accelerator pump arm on a QJet- that's a common source of air cleaner interference with a QJet.
If it does fit on the stock carb, then welding a second metal air intake (or whatever the actual name is) from another TPI, onto one TPI air cleaner body, should result in an air cleaner that would be fairly close in performance and appearance to an HO air cleaner... just might work.
If you find an air cleaner housing from a big block TBI engine the snorkel that sticks out of it is a perfect mirror image of the one you posted the picture of. It looks almost exactly the same but points towards the passenger side. It would make for a very clean, very unique air cleaner setup the would probably flow every big as good, if not better than, an L69 HO setup.
