I have a 86 Camaro 305 manual trans it has a stock 4bbl. but i am looking to upgrade needs replacing. any suggestions on what might be the best carb to use
Since you have a manual transmission, a Holley-type double pumper is justifiable. This will require changing the intake manifold and distributor; unless you get the 4165 spreadbore Holley double pumper, in which case you only need to replace the distributor. But, it only has provision for a manual choke, which is a hassle.
If you don't go with a Holley double pumper, keep the q-jet. Anything else, especially an Edelbrock or vacuum secondary carb (the SA is a vacuum secondary carb) is a downgrade and waste of money.
Any particular reason you're asking? The carb is the last thing to change when you're looking for more power out of a stock 305.
well for me the carb needed to be changed and i'm looking to do an engine swap in the near future so i just picked a small holly for now. now i am interested though. what are some mods to make my snail of a 305 go?
