Carb problems, no performance

I have a 1985 LG4 305 4bbl trans am with the 700r4 trans. My problem is, if the gas pedal is half way to the floor or all the way to the floor, there is no difference in performance. If I am at a dead stop and have to go up a hill it takes forever to make it up the hill. Aslo my choke light is always on. I know the 305 is not a powerful engine but my girlfriends 99 2.4 alero running on one cylinder in reverse would make it up the hill quicker then my trans am.

once in a while or whenever it feels like it. the choke light will go out once in every 50 starts. The light stay's off until I try to start the car again.

maybe the secondary valves on the top fail to open. this can be caused by a faulty choke. remove the air cleaner dish and floor it. then the secondaries should open. if not that's a problem and causes loss of power.

Re: Carb problems, no performance

You won't see the secondary air valve opening with no load on the engine.

Is the choke light on while the engine is off? Regardless of that, is the choke plate opening?

Re: Carb problems, no performance

you can see the secondaries open at idle with no load on the motor. You have to pin the pedal to the floor hard, and let off. They'll open 1/4-1/2 inch.
