hey guys, I just strapped on a rebuilt E4ME from national carburetors, thing looks great, fired up just fine. The problem is, it dosnt seem like the car has as much power as it use to. I adjusted the idle, and got that nicley sitting at 800rpm (smoothest). I have a cheap narrow band A/F gauge that i used to kinda get an "idea" for what it was doing (i know a narrow band isnt a tuning tool).
Now the problem, it's running lean i believe. The car use to run very very rich with the old carb, you could smell it. Now that smell is gone, and my A/F gauge shows lean if you apply anymore than like 20% throttle. To keep it running ideal/rich you have to be VERY VERY gentle. If you do go above 20% throttle, the gauge goes so lean it dosnt light, then it will shoot back up around lean/ideal. Also, if you step on it, the engine will completly bog for 1-2 seconds, then be very rough, then finally smooth out and run good. If you floor the car to 5.5k and let off, it'll backfire. I checked TPS voltage, and it's a tad high. 0.61v at idle, should be 0.50 according to my manual. Would that really make that big of a difference? Before i replaced the carb, i ran my old one without the TPS even plugged in (it was shot), and it never backfired.
How do i adjust A/F at WOT/Any throttle at all?
All i can see are my idle rev adjustment, and i have two idle rich/lean screws on the bottom front of the carb, one on each side.
So, just to summarize.
AF reads lean above 20% for 2-3 seconds, then shows up near lean/ideal
Motor backfires if you rev it up in neutral and let off
TPS voltage is off slightly
Doesnt smell like a rich condition
1-2 second pause when floored, then it stumbles a bit and finally smoothens out.
If i gently increase throttle, it seems to be not as bad.
No SES lights
Any ideas? Thanks guy!

First thing to check for is vacuum leaks. Are you sure you have all of the vacuum lines correctly reinstalled? Maybe the vacuum lines are old and one of them "sprang" a leak while changing out the carb?
