L69 starting hard?

hey guys im having a little bit of an issue with my carb i think, it seems to start kind of hard, it's only been sitting for the day when i took this shot. i dont know if it matters but i can let my carbed bike sit for a couple of days and it'll start right up. It also checked the sqirters from the top and when i pump they squirt like 2 times then it comes out dry, after i start the car i can sqirt them 7 times and they still have fuel... btw the car is completely stock with the CCC carb

A common problem for q-jets is having the well plugs on the bottom of the bowl leak.

To fix them, you have to disassemble the carb enough to get the throttle body off. Then clean and epoxy over the well plugs.

I'm sure a of this forum will bring up threads that detail the fix.

Re: L69 starting hard?

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would add to this one, I finally got enough time to get the carburetor off the car, and I got two spare "practice" carbs (non ccc though), I’ve been reading a lot and slowly learning more about the ccc qjet, I plan to seal all 6 well plugs, but I have a question, what is the best way to seal them? It seems epoxy is the common method, would it last? If so what's the best epoxy to use? JB weld? Permatex? While i have the carburetor off the car is there anything else worth doing?

Re: L69 starting hard?

I've always used JB Weld.

That carb looks to be in pretty good shape and all the tamper proof plugs are still installed. If it was running really well you may decide to leave it be, but you may want to open it up and have a look. A lot of times I'll find one or more of the tubes that are installed in the airhorn laying loose.

A rebuild kit will run around $20 and you'll need a can of carb cleaner. If you decide to open it up make sure to count the number of turns to seat on the Idle Air Bleed and Lean Stop Screw (holds the Mixture Control Solenoid in place) so they can be re-installed to original settings. There's tons of info on rebuilds here, you just need to search. Like:

We still won't mind answering any questions though.

Re: L69 starting hard?

well I followed your advice and epoxied the well plugs tonight with some jb weld. Hopefully it'll seal good now.

Re: L69 starting hard?

like before insted of starting a new thread i'll add to this one, as you saw i epoxied the well plugs, but it still cold starts a bit hard (again it only sat for a day). I also had to adjust the curb idle a bit because it was idling at 1000rpm so i brought it down to 750rpm, cold idle is at about 1800rpm. Finally i keep getting a code 44 (lean exhaust) if you let the car idle too long, and i tried another o2 sensor. any insight would be greatly appriciated
