Where can I get a replacement electric choke?

The carb was sticking on a fast idle and we had a dash light indicating an electric choke problem. Ground off the rivets and removed the electric choke coil and the problem went away. But I can't locate a replacement electric choke. A dealer thinks they can get one in a week or two but they want $137 for the cover and coil. That's pretty steep.

I found a "universal" for around $40 but I'm not sure about it. It doesn't look identical.

Thanks for any advice.

84 Trans Am 305 (H) auto trans Rochester Quadrajet 17084201 E4ME carb is original.

TA Dad, q-jets and associated parts are getting harder to find. But this is where I go for my q-jet stuff. http://www.carburetion.com/quadrajet.asp You have the carb number, Let us know if this works out for you..

TA Dad, welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

You should be able to get the choke thermostat from most any auto parts store.

Looking at Advance Auto's website, it shows a Sorensen replacement for about $41. That's about what I paid for one last year.

Re: Where can I get a replacement electric choke?

Called a number of auto parts stores and they all couldn't come up with one. So today I went to NAPA and the counter guy was able to look it up. It's a universal (listed for all kinds of Quadrajets) but looks like it will work.

Any tricks to installation/adjustment? It has pop rivets but I thought we'd go with screws or bolts to make it easier to adjust in the future. Does that make sense?

Re: Where can I get a replacement electric choke?

Yes, I use the screws that come with the rebuild kits. I suppose that is the preferred method. The new part does not come with screws?

Meant to attach this on the last one. Duh. It even has the little brackets to hold the choke thermostat in place.

It came with the little brackets. But it has pop rivets instead of screws. I think I'll take a run to the hardware store.

Look up Sorensen 779-1485 on advanceautoparts.com. It's specifically for our carbs. No modifications needed to wire it up.
