LG4 Q's

Hey i know some of these questions are probably here somewhere but i could not find answers so sorry if they repeat...

What needs to be done to remove EGR from an LG4?

How do i delete the A.I.R. ?

I would like the car to function as it does now with no codes thrown, no check engine light.

Would a LT1 vette cam be a good choice for a mild LG4 build with vortec heads or would a 350 Ram Jet Cam be better... how would these work with the stock ecm?? reason i ask is i have access to both of these and they are free... i was advised to use a ZZ4 cam but i would have to buy one and then upgrade the springs i believe the stock springs would work ok with the lift on either of these cams...

also i would like to upgrade to true roller rockers, 1:6 or 1:5 better with one of these cams???

here are the specs on my engine... stock vortec long block edelbrock intake stock carb/ engine management...

also i have a stock in tank and mechanical fuel pump

thanks for any and all help

Re: LG4 Q's

For the AIR - just have to plug the ends of the tubes that come off the exhaust manifolds, and cut off and plug the line that runs to the cat. As far as belt routing goes, you're on your own - it's a v-belt car right? I have serp belts, and not sure of the v-belt setup.

EGR removal requires a block off plate - should be available at Summit. EGR also uses a vacuum line that will have to be plugged or capped. EGR removal will probably throw a code.

Cams I'm no expert on.

Roller Rockers can be expensive. I used a set of roller-tip rockers once, and they were a nice compromise for the price.

Not sure how your ECM will react to various cams, or higher lift (ie 1.6:1 rockers).

The LT1 cam has been used by many as an upgrade for LG4 and LO3 engines. The ECM will be fine with it.

If you leave the EGR solenoid plugged in, it won't set any trouble codes.

Of course, removing A.I.R. and EGR is illegal in all 50 of the United States for vehicles driven on public roads.

Re: LG4 Q's

is there a downside of the lt1 cam in a LG4 or just an all around improvement?

Re: LG4 Q's

What year is your LG4? cause all lg4s use flat tappet cams. the lt4 is a roller. I know the 87 lg4 is a roller block so u would need roller lifters, hold down spider, and the things that hold the lifters in place, (i cant remember what they're called)

But i think with ur mods and stock cam i'm guessing 230hp/260tq

Re: LG4 Q's

so your saying my 87 305 did not have a roller cam? its a vortec block and heads tho BTW but 230 260 sounds pretty stout for a LG4 to me so maybe 260 /290 for the 5.7?
