Holley Idle Issue

770 street avenger 383 700r4. Idle seems to be all over the place. When the cars is cold it won't run(i know this is a given) after a few minutes driving it still wont idle right when its in gear. i have to brake with the left foot. this is probably just due to car not being warmed up. problem lies with after the car has been driving for awhile. idles fine in drive but after i put the car in neutral or park the idle jumps up to 1500-1600 rpms. i have checked for vaccum leaks and the carburetor gasket between the carb and the manifold may have a miniscule leak but other than that i cant tell. i have adjusted both the idle mixture screws numerous times as well as the idle screw on the throttle. any thoughts as to what is causing the high idle?

what jets do you have in it?
did you adj.choke?
check for manifold leaks?
do you have the ports all plugged off?
new pcv valve?
check the brake booster hose?
engine timing correct?
float level correct?

thats all i can think of at the moment. short list to check off. hope this can help you.

fuel pressure is at about 5 psi. i have adjusted the choke and checked the manifold for leaks. i need to double check the ports. the only other thing that may need adjusting is the float level. do you think it could be the carb gasket? it did have a slight leak

Re: Holley Idle Issue

If it was the carb to manifold gasket, you betcha. It'll never idle right with that leaking.
