ok so i have an 88 lo3 "stock " and i want to carb , i want to go edelbrock , now i want to make this transition easy as possible i dont want to buy a manaifold and a carb and then find out that i need other components and have to wait , so i want some suggestions on what i should buy , how many cfm's what intake manifold would best suit my application , manual or electric choke etc. my goal on my bird is to keep it mild kinda 300 ish hp , any suggestios would be appreciated
Since your car is a 1988 model year, the only carburetor choice you have is a computer controlled q-jet system from an '88 Monte Carlo. No other carb is remotely emissions-legal.
Aside from your emissions problems.. you will need to replace your computer controlled distributor with a vacuum distributor. And if your cam is a roller u will have to swap the distributor gear.
even if i get the intake manifold with the egr port ?
Only a closed-loop computer controlled carburetor and distributor is legal for use on your car, and since your car is a 1988 model, only a system from an '88 or later certified vehicle is legal.
Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure if a carbureted Monte Carlo was offered in California. Certainly no 3rd gen f-body was offered with carb in 1988, either in California or anywhere.
You're begging for a butt kicking at emissions time. If you're up for that, go for it.
If you had an '87, you could swap in a carb engine from another '87.
I don't know why you'd want to though, as you have 21 years of great engines to choose from.....
