Installing Edelbrock 1406 to stock 305 manifold on Trans Am?

I'll be buying a Trans Am with a 305 that needs a new carburetor. I'd like to get an Edelbrock 1406, but I'm wondering if it'll fit to the stock manifold and what hardware I'd need to do it? I'm looking to spend as little as possible, so if I don't need to buy anything else, that's great.

Re: Installing Edelbrock 1406 to stock 305 manifold on Trans Am?

I installed a 1405 on my friends lg4. if i remember correctly it comes with a plate that installs between the stock spread bore intake and the carb.

The 1405 carb was too rich for his lg4, the 1406 is supose to be leaner, but probably still too big of a carb. Second time around I'd choose the 1403 its calibrated specially for 305 engines. let me know how it works out for u.

In order to install an Edelbrock carb on a stock intake manifold, you need to buy a spreadbore to squarebore adapter. You also need to change the distributor (unless this is a Canadian-delivered LG4). If automatic transmission, you need a TV cable geometry corrector bracket, and provide some means of locking up the torque converter clutch.

In my personal opinion, replacing a stock carb with an Edelbrock is a horrible idea. You'll spend more buying and installing it than you possibly could fixing the stock carb. And you'll end up with an inferior product.

Don't do it. If you want to spend as little as possible, fix what's wrong with your current carb.
