| Re: Carb and cam swap??? I'm new to this swap game as well, but I just completed a TPI to carb swap on my 88 Trans Am. Most of what the swap involves can be found in the tech article on this site as well as by searching the carb forum.
For the fuel delivery to the engine, you'll need to run an in-line pressure regulator, like a Mallory 4309, Barry Grant makes one as well and that's what I used, and I think a lot of other companies do as well. The key here is it has to have a return port so the unused fuel can be returned back to the tank. It will keep the in-tank pump from burning up.
For a distributor, get a HEI with vaccum advance, the original computer controlled one won't really work.
For a carb, I had a Holley 650 CFM that my neighbor gave me. I never rebuilt it, because just before I was going to, he offered an Edelbrock Performer 1405 carb to me if I'd give back the Holley. Since an Edelbrock carb is nothing more than a Carter AFB (if you've been around a while, those carbs were popular back in the 60s and 70s), I went with it. So far, it has been running pretty good. My dad used to work with the Carter AFB's back in the day, and he liked them. So far I do too.
For a cam, I used a Summit K1103, which is a flat tappet cam, so it won't really be worth your while to use that one if you have a roller block. But look up the specs on Summit's site, maybe a roller cam with similar specs may work for you, or you may want to go different.
For an intake, I used the Edelbrock Performer EPS intake, and so far, I like that as well.
