The one on the left that is sealed off originally went to the air filter assembly and was for opening and closing the valve on the stove pipe that allowed heated exaust in to help when the engine was cold.

The larger one in the middle goes to a diverter valve assembly that is hooked up to vacuum lines in four places.

1. Off carb (the one you show as blocked off to the diverter valve. (basically sits just in front of the thermostat housing held in place by the vacuum lines)
2. The diverter valve then breaks off to the PVC (and the charcoal canister)
3. A smaller one off the divertervalve back to the carb (sits just below the three pronged electrical connector on the right of your picture)
4. From the diverter valve to a sensor on the top of the intake. (another large line that goes to the left of the electrical plug in the bottom left of your picture on my car)

This is using my 84 L69H.O. as an example. When I get my camera back from the hospital I will take some pictures and post them that hopefully makes this a bit clearer.

Essentially, most of this is for Emissions purposes. If you don't like the look of the lines hanging off and you don't need emissions, simply go and by a vacuum plug cover kit from Autozone and take the lines off and stick the covers on. Thes covers not only cover the tube the lines are on but also seals them so there is no vacuum leak.

Hope this helps!

Have you solved any of your previous issues with this motor? Hard starting and your codes?

Re: ccqjet what are these and where do they go

Some what, the codes i was getting were due to my bad cat converter causing back pressure into the manifolds, as well as a dead o2 sensor, both have been replaced. It ran well but the engine had a miss somewhere so i assumed one of my plugs wasn't firing, changed wires and plugs, but car wouldn't start as my q-jet wasn't getting any fuel. if i pour fuel directly in the carb car runs then dies, so i assume something is clogging the carb, so I attempted a rebuild using the information on the sticky posting. Now my carb is flooding instead of being blocked soo i'm checking my float. I thank you for checking up on me about that prior post, no one ever responded.

By flooding do you mean gas is pouring out? Or is it simply running rich?

Re: ccqjet what are these and where do they go

There was gas pouring out, somehow the needle lifted out of the seat and was jammed into the float leaving the float down at all times causing the flooding. About to try it again. BTW my MCS is no longer clicking when i turn the ignition on butnothing was done to it i just unplugged it when i removed it, plugged it back up and know it's not clicking.

Make sure the little u-shaped piece that the float hinges on is properly positioned in the well so that the 'u' end fits in the slot in the main body. If it's in there backwards it will allow the float to hang open like you describe. The attached shows the proper install:

Check your ecm, may be labeled 'engine', fuse under the dash. It could have shorted out. Check any other loose connectors for possible shorts to ground, like the AIR and EGR.

The ECM will stop the MCS clicking after about 30 seconds if the engine isn't started with the ignition in 'run'. Maybe you simply let it time out?

Ok, here is a top down engine picture of how I have my vacuum lines set up. They've been this way since i bought the car 8 years ago and it's never been an issue.

ANyway, coming from the carb you can clearly see the ports that you have plugged off and mostly where they go. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.

Still running good?

The local camaro/firebird group is planning a meet third Sat of October. Their website is scfbaonline.com.
