edelbrock 1406 no spring under accelerator nozzles

I took my carb apart to clean it and change jets i took off the accelerator pump nozzles but i didnt see any spring just the ball and the small brass rod. in one of my rebuild books it says nothing about the spring and showed no pics of it in the expolde view. but in other books and expoldes it shows it and talks about it. so im a bit confused if it was spouse to be in my model of carb and i cant find any part numbers for it if may carb needs that spring then i would like to know where to order it. iv looked on edelbrock.com and tryed to call but i can never seem to get a hold of anyone. anyway hope someone could help me out thanks
