I've searched on the site about the charcoal canister and im still a little confused. When i bought my car it had a carded 350 in it and i think the charcoal canister was still mostly hooked up. The car was originally a fuel injected 305 so wouldn't the computer have controlled it or something? Either way i removed it (at someones advice) and the haven't blocked off the lines going to it or anything so what should i do about that and what difference will it really make?
The canister serves as both vapor storage and filter to keep dirt out of the vent line. It can fuction either by computer control, by vacuum or temperature switch, full time, or not at all. It can have a small affect on the AFR, especially at idle and times of strong vacuum. IMO If you remove it, then it is best to reduce the size of the vent by pinching it slightly and installing a type of filter like one of those clear plastic fuel filters with the paper element on the end of the vent line to keep dirt out of it. Try not to let it vent to an area where the fuel vapor might be ignited or would collect too much inside or under the car.
And you'll want to get that vacuum line out of the system, as now you have a vacuum leak - either plug it or remove it at the T fitting, removing the T fitting and replacing the T with a straight connector.
