87 LG4 CC Qjet running rich

Ive spent all afternoon searching the forums for a solution to my and thus want to elaborate on what has happened thus far, after tracing one of my original issues to a bad o2 sensor and cat converter, i promptly changed the both, along with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, module, distributor. Shortly after i began experiencing issues with my fuel pump, this was promptly replaced as well. Upon replacing the fuel pump my carburetor began to literally overflow with fuel, due to somehow or another the needle coming out of the seat, after a quick rebuild of the carburetor (cc qjet) i mounted it back on the car and fired it up, plumes of black smoke from the exhaust. This tends to happen right at start up and at times during cruise, Mcs Clicks when ignition is on, i have about 1/8" travel for the mcs plunger i never touched the idle mixture screws, i've tried adjusting the idle air bleed valve, despite all that ive tried the car still runs extremely rich, have fouled two sets of spark plugs, and from what i know the idle mixture screw really dont do much for a cc qjet because the computer controls the mcs but im getting no ses lights , also idle is somewhat erratic, as high as 1800 in park down to 900, idle in drive is pretty steady at 800, any one have any ideas. And how do i check the computer to make sure its working correctly. any help would really be appreciated. thank You

Make sure your choke is functioning correctly. Should be open completely after the engine has been running for about three minutes. If the idle drops significantly when placing it in drive from park, look for a vacuum leak somewhere. If the MCS is clicking, the computer's fine.

Where in columbia is the car? I work near the stadium now.

I check for proper choke opening and it works fine, opens completely as it should, but there is a hissing noise that i dont recall hearing before, might that and indication of a vacuum leak, also could a vacuum leak cause my system to go full rich. Im located in northeast columbia near clemsoon road and two notch.

A vacuum leak could force the system out of its narrow range of adjustment and prevent it from achieving open loop operation. After the re-build the IAB (and maybe the idle mixture screws) should also be adjusted to achieve proper dwell and feedback operation.

Check for vacuum leaks first. You can plug every port on the carb and manifold and with the engine warmed up and idling, reconnect them one at a time to see if the idle changes. It's normal for the vacuum line to the charcoal canister to cause a slight change in idle but it shouldn't increase by more than maybe 50 rpms. You can leave the PCV hose connected after ensuring that the ball still rattles inside of the valve that plugs into the valve cover.

If nothing shows up you can spray a little carb cleaner around the carb base. If sprayed near a leak the idle will increase. An intake manifold leak should be unlikely unless it has been removed and re-installed recently.

I'm hoping to attend the meet next weekend and would be happy to put the scanner on it if you're planning to go. They're meeting at the Sonic in Harbison at noon on Saturday. If not I might be able to do something after work.
