Carb help

i was wondering if my carb was acting up or not, but any ways when i start my car the motor revs up to about 4k and wont idle it try's to but it doesn't my dads friend looked at the carb and said its really worn out was wondering if this is a symptom of a need of a rebuild or if a metering rod is stuck or some thing i am kind of new to car carbs but have been inside and out of a dirtbike carb so i sorta know the basics, maybe a jet is clogged or somthing ?

Having a clue as to what kind of carb you're talking about, what modifications you've made, etc., would be helpful.

A "worn out" carb is a rarity. "Screwed up", "dirty", "mal-adjusted", "improperly installed" are pretty common.

ya i realized i forgot that .... the most important part its a quadra jet the stock one off of the 305 my camaro came with i just got done putting in a 350 its bored out .30 cammed and thats about it besides the air cleaner... any info on adjusting or cleaning would help alot
