Carb and vaccum lines.... 55-6+ RPM when started???

i just put a 350 in my camaro it had a carbed 305 but now i put the carb on and start up the car the orginal 305 quadra jet carb wouldnt hold an idle in order for me to get it below 4500 rpm i had to keep tapping the gas other then that it would idle really high, i switched carbs to a holley 650 double pump but now this one idled high also but then i got it to about 2000 rpms and then it died a few times and now when is start the car the RPMS shoot alll the way up and i shut the car off because i dont want to know what would happen next, its like its dumping fuel right in and not stopping and then befor after my dad was playing around with it also he siad it sounds like it was starving for fuel and then getting some and then starving for fuel .... any ideas befor i go out and get a rebuilt carb ?? and vaccum lines ? what ones are suppost to be hooked up from wear to the carb ?i have most hooked up but i dont no were the other go or come from can some one help me out please it would be a huge help

Where's your timing set at?

You need to have the vacuum ports from the carb either running to something, or capped. Basic setup would include a vac line to brake booster, a line running to the PCV valve on the valve cover, a line to the HEI vacuum can on the distributor - those would be the ones running from the carb. There is also a vacuum port in the top of the intake behind the carb - this should have lines running to the vacuum ball under the headlights (holds vacuum for the heater controls), and a vacuum line to the heater controls (goes into firewall on right side of the heater box).

But to get the car running, just cap them all off until you get an idle and can set timing, then get a line to the distributor so you can check/adjust total timimg under vacuum, then get a line run to brake booster so you have brakes and adjust timing and/or idle screws and mixture screws to maximize vacuum to brakes, then line to the PCV valve to control pressue in the engine and remove blowby fumes, and lastly worry about the ball and the heater controls.
