is it just me or does edelbrock suck? looking for a new carb.

Hey guys I have a edelbrock 1406 600cfm manual choke carb right now, I have had hell trying to keep my freshly rebuilt 350 running, (crnk turned .010, bored .030, 9.0:1 @ 72cc pistons, timing chain, all new gaskets, mech edelbrock fuel pump, carb gas tank line modification)

This is on a 1978 chevy 350 out of a truck, It has 883 heads with new valves and seats, performer RPM intake, 700r4 (lockup and tv corector bracket).

The car is a 1986 Iroc-Z,
I plan on putting in a set of edelbrock performer rpm 64cc heads, and a thumper cam (279/297 .498,.483).

This car will be daily driven in the summer, I hope for 325 rwhp. Or around that.... The cam in the car right now is a summit 262/272 .420.442...

This car will be daily driven in the summer, it sits in a heated garage in the winter, I will drive it some in the spring so electric choke is a must for me.

What is the point of this? To get advice, some tech help, or argue about different brands? Sure, Edelbrock isn't the best product around, but you get what you pay for.

I know for a fact most guys here would LOVE to go sink over ten THOUSAND dollars into a Hogan's Sheet Metal Intake, a complete FAST EFI fuel injection kit suitable for up to 1,000 horsepower engines, which is $4,000+ alone. Then top it off with some very pricey Brodix Track 1 heads, but hardly anyone here could afford that, so we stick with cheaper parts that'll make for a reliable daily driver for up to 500 horsepower engines.

Anyone else that replies will most likely say the same as I did, you get what you pay for, especially with Edelbrock, they're well performing parts for the price.

was wondering on carb suggestions, I am looking to get away from edelbrock, I might look into one of their avs series because I have an auto trans. But I have been looking into street demon and holly carbs, everyone seems to like the double pumper series.

If you're looking to get away from Edelbrock than I'd get away from them. I've run the Holley Street Avengers on several of my rigs and I've got absolutely no complaints. I did have to rejet it a little bigger but that was easy enough. The easy adjust secondary spring set up is cool too.

So you wanted advice on what carb besides an edelbrock to purchase, then you decided on another edelbrock?

Holley or Demon are going to be a better choice. Don't go with the Road Demon though, their choke linkage is goofy and can sometimes get in the way of the air cleaner. Whatever brand you get, check over the carb really well for problems.

If someone in the past has the jetting and metering rods all messed up, that's probably not Edelbrock's fault!!!! I've installed Edelbrock carbs on a number of cars, when set up and calibrated per the Edelbrock instructions, they work great!!!! Holley's are the same way, if somebody previously has installed a bunch of wrong parts, they aren't going to work right either!!!
