Alright I have an edelbrock 1406 with an electronic choke. It's getting a little nippy here and I went to hook up the choke but the PO had a red wire on the negative terminal and no wire on the positive. Well I didn't check it before I hooked it up and I hooked it up backwards for a few seconds. When I hook it up correctly nothing happens. Do you think I blew it?
Also when I hook my distributor to the vacuum port on the passenger side the engine has some major dead spotting but when I hook it up to the one on the drivers side it runs great. Anyone have any idea why that might be happening? Thanks!

There is nothing to go bad in the choke housing. It's just a heater in there. By the way, it's an electric choke. No electronics are involved.
Does there not have to be power hooked up to that choke? Theres a positive and negative terminal on the outside of the choke housing..doesn't it have to have power to close the butterfly flap?
Flap? Do you mean choke? If so, no. The wires go to the choke housing to heat it up so it will open. With the engine cold, press the gas pedal to the floor, that'll set the choke closed. If it's not closed, rotate the choke housing enough to only leave 1/8 clearance so air can get into the carb. When the engine is warm, the choke should be completely open. Spray carb cleaner around all the linkage so it all operates freely.
Ah I see! So the choke doesn't just open really quick or close really quick, it does it gradually based on the heater? Well I guess I'll try and find an ignition source and hook it up then. Thanks!
It'll only open quick when the engine is cold and you stomp on the gas. Otherwise, it might take 3 minute to open in the summer and maybe up to 15 in the winter.
Ok so does it close that flap or not? If not then I guess its fine if so the flap never closes when I hook up power.
You have it set way to lean. Line up the marks on the choke and start from there. You will find the carb is never really happy with the factory(edelbrock) electric choke and variable weather. What works perfect at 0 degrees will have your choke on constantly at anything warmer.
