i have a dropping in a carbed 305 in my RS and i was wondering whats a cool carb to go with, my price range is 200-300 what about holley ? or a matching edelbrock carb for my edelbrock intake. thanks peaCe

i got the holley 670 street avenger for my 355, albiet it was alittle small, coulda went with a 770, but I would definetely suggest it for a 305. Very nice carb.

Is your 305 from an older non-CCC car? If so, and if you're inclined to rebuild your own carb, get an older non-CC Quadrajet. It's a direct drop-in and amazing improvements can be had with a simple change of metering rods and jets.

For under $100, you could have a nice, rebuild-it-yourself, Q-Jet that gives good, solid throttle response with good fuel economy as well!

Non-CC means "no computer controls". Also referred to as mechanical carb.

From your other post, I thought you had already done this. Unless you get all of the computer controls from the donor '86 car, you will need a mechanical/vacuum advance distributor as well. The most popular is an older style HEI. If your budget is really $200-300, you're probably looking at getting used or rebuilt carb and distributor.

I'd suggest you go look at the tech articles. There's one about converting from fuel injection to carb. It has all of the info you need. There's another on choosing a carb, which would also be a good one to go over. Although it was written by the biased Mr. Jester, I agree with his assessment of the Avenger carbs - an over-priced version of what you can make yourself.

No i havent already dont it, my old engine is about to be pulled out and my new one the carbed 305 is about to be put in.
