Car: 1989 Formy droptop/88 Deville Engine: L98 350 TPI Transmission: factory RWD, WS6 susp | Don't Forget Guys! Pontiac Enthusiest Magazine just recently, last month or so, did a story on the Fiero droptop, that was produced only as a concept car and ordered destroyed by GM, but luckily that order went through 'the proper' channels' and the car still exists. It was built by ASC; American Sunroof/ Automotive Specialty Corp. As pointed out in several sources besides this site, GM did approve and appont ACS the job of converting customer cars, which is why I call them official no matter what the VIN reads, in my humble opinion.
Even most recently as the Camaro book by Anthony Young I just picked up to read, ASC is mentioned in regard to the 3rd gens, but also in light of GM switching to assembly line build for the 4th gen droptops. No word is made here of double production of the previous cars at both locations, so I still am in high doubt until I see visual proof of that taking place
Firebirds and Camaros were slated for the conversion, Willy forgot to mention. Thos horrid button on tops are atrocious (SP?)
Anyway, ASC did one fine job, with only minor gripes, at best

Car: 1984 Autoform Firebird Engine: 2.8l V6 Transmission: Auto | I don't know if I'd call them Atrocious. I quite enjoy mine...
Sure, they don't look as good as the newer ones, but hey - I get the '82-'84 styling, and no roof! It's a win-win situation. |

'84 I believe. Verry nice in person. Just lose the pink ? grafix, and the headlight covers.
has a retired nascar motor. th400 dual exh. etc. | You're nutz...the graphics and horizontal slat motif work great. Reminds me of the old days of real custom cars... they seem rare now. Sorry for the DP

Bill | Thats why I love my 2 seater so much, its not your everyday plain jane Camaro.
I think the two seater layout would the wrong car a a family man with children, but as a second car this Camaro serves it purpose. looks, Speed and Different

| 1984 Auto Form Camaro Hey everyone. I am a new member to this discussion board. Just purchased a 1984 Camaro 2 seater, red that looks like the Auto Form cars that have been featured in other posts here. Attached are pics of mine. I too, would like to know about production numbers and available replacement parts?? One thing that is different on my car is that I have grooves in the lower door panel along the sides of the car. I know my interior was redone with new leather seats and new carpet. Also my top material is new and so are the snaps. I keep the car covered as the seller told me he never drove it in rain or snow. I think that the car might leak anyway due to the design of the window meeting the rubber gasket where the top snaps on the side??
I will post more pics with the top down later. Anyone have any info on insurance. I live in NJ and was quoted over $1,300 a year just for basic coverage!!. I would love to QQ tag the car but in NJ it appears that the car must be at least 25 years old? I am still researching this.
I am assuming mine is an Auto Form car but am not certain. IT has the 305 engine and is a stick shift. I don't particularly like the rims and will change them out for a simple 5 point star design? |

| My '84 Hey all,
I just bought an '84 2 seater Z28 and I was wondering if anyone had put that website together to register the cars? Or if anyone had found out more solid information on the number of cars that were produced.

| I have heard different production numbers....I think that all are agreed that the conversions of the 84 2 seaters were done by Auto Form in Elkhardt, Indidana....The guy I bought mine from told me that back in 1984 the 84 2 seater cost almost as much as a Corvette. So people were opting to buy the Corvette instead of the 2 seater Camaros/Firebirds?// So maybe that is one explanation why production was so limited(there wasn't much demand for them!!) I love mine and often go to Welcome to Year One to find replacement parts...I heard that they only made 500 of these cars from 1984-1987??? I have not found one yet that has the grooves on the lower doors/rear quarter panels like mine has!!?? Possibly this was an option in 1984??? |

| My car does have the grooves on the lower sides ofthe body also... It is just where the body panels lip and then the ground effects start under that lip as opposed to covering that lip. |

Car: 1987 Camaro Two Seater Engine: 350 Transmission: Automatic | 1987 Autoform Camaro I have a 1987 Conversion NOT done by Autoform. I recently met someone who has a 1984 with I believe he said a 1977 production number. I have heard many different production numbers researching my car. I also heard there weren't any 1987's done because that is the year they brought back the convertible.
I love my Camaro and would love to know how many are still in exsistance.

1985 PONTIAC TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE
2 seater, one of only 100 produced, exc cond, 72K orig mi, garaged, $8500. (973) 786-6077 . New Jersey | I own a 1983 5L Z28 carburated convertible roadster that may be Autoforms first Camaro Z28 conversion because there is no identification that it was done by Autoform. My car was introduced in the June, 1983 Road America Sprints as their Pace Car. My research indicates that Autoform produced about 600 conversions on Camaros and Firebirds starting in 1983 and ending in 1986. All conversions were performed on new cars submitted by GM dealers as "Special Order customer conversions. I understand that the conversion cost a little over $5,500 per car. The vin numbers do not reflect that conversion and tracking by Vin # is therefore impossible. The brochures tend to support the "Special Order" status of all cars produced by Autoform. I have found only thirteen owners, and none claim to be original owners.
I have been beating my head against a brick wall trying to get more History on our rare beauties and invite all who think they are "Special" to beat the bushes for more information. One of the firebird owners told me that Autoform also had a plant in Shawnee, Oklahoma but the chamber of commerce in Shawnee could not verify that information. I have also been told that there were conversions done on 4, 6, and 8 cylinder cars, which surprised me, does anyone know a 4cyl owner. |
