Just ordered a new top, but.....

One of the shops I called to get a quote on labor asked if I got the weather stripping. I looked at a bunch of sites to find the weatherstripping, but I cant find it . Should it come with the top I ordered? I ordered a EZ ON brand top with the glass top, but it doesnt say if it comes with weather stripping. I tried to call their offices, but no answer. Anyone know what I should do?

I just looked at my top and the weather stripping looks good, can it be re-used? I found it on the internet too @ this site for about $100, ouch! Most of the prices on that site arent that bad though.

Im not sure which wx stripping the shop is refering to but I have replaced the wx strip on the back of the top where it seals over the toneau cover and it sets in a track and can be removed....however the previous owner used glue to keep it in place and the old one came off in pieces.

Also I have replaced the seals at the top of the windows and if I remember they just slide in....but again, the previous owner had them glued in......

Having said that, I think it depends on how they are removed. If you can get them out w/o rips you could reuse them.

As for cost...they are expensive. Seems to me i paid about $70 each for the top window seals and about $100 for the rear one.

Check with Hawks 3rd Gen Parts he carries a fair amount of vert seals etc....

Good luck,
John

Weatherstripping does NOT come with the top. I also bought a EZOn top from TopsOnLine with the glass window and had it installed. I did buy the bow 5 stripping (where the top meets the rear deck). It was 125 from Hawks. Well worth the money. The top of the windows were reused as were the sides.....My bow 5 was shot and needed replaced anyway. You might want to check and make sure that you have both of the tension wires...if not they sell them at TopsOnLine.

One caveat on the top. Be careful putting it up and down the first few times to ensure that you don't bind the glass...need to kinda crease it with your hand just above the glass the first couple of times so it creates a 'memory'.

Also, I have to keep the rear seat latch undone so the seat back can drift forward just a little so the top will go down.

Very happy with the top...other than one small issue. The glue has come loose on bow 2 and the top raises a little in the wind. Think maybe my installer got it TOO tight and it pulled loose . It was like a drum head tight.

Weatherstripping

You don't HAVE to replace all weatherstripping when replacing the top. I would have your top guy inspect what is there and recommend what needs to be replaced. That's what I did. This was my first convertible so I wandered into his shop needing a pro to point me in the right direction. I had owned my car less than a week when it went into the shop for a new top and interior. After looking at the stripping we decided to replace the part that sits on top of the tonneau. It's integrity was fine but it looked to have become flattened with age.

Since the top I have replaced the two side pieces behind the windows.

After having owned the car for a while now there is nothing about the stripping that would be difficult for a person with moderate skills to be able to do. It's not brain surgery...

I bought my weatherstripping at Fbody Motorsports

Good Luck!
