Re: Convertible Photography

Here is a pic from a recent trip I took in my vert. I went to Oneonta Alabama - a small town in North Alabama that I had never even heard of. Oneonta's claim to fame is that they have about a dozen covered bridges within 30 miles of the town. Several of these bridges are very close. The area is semi mountainous with good roads. My Vert handles like a dream and I had a lot of fun driving around topless up there.

The pic was taken on one of the covered bridges.

That's seriously one of the coolest convertibles I've ever seen. It reminds me of my wife's car (in my sig) except in convertible form. Bravo!

My wife is from Sand Mountain and I've seen or been on many of those bridges. Only on one occasion in the last 21 years have I taken my vert up there and boy was it worth it. The very hilly winding roads were a blast to run - especially for this Florida Boy.

BTW - both your ride and the pic sure are sharp.

Gatorcola, Thanks!

I checked out "The Roc" on cardomain and read your story. You have one of the best looking verts I have seen, and I enjoyed the story immensely!

I have one question though. How did your son manage to have a red and black car in Gainesville?

OMG - that's funny! Takes a Georgia Boy to think that one up; we never did.

Thank you for the kind words about my site. I attempted to find more pics of your ride but to no avail. Suggest you at least put a few in the vBGarge.

I've never been to Albenny but I do know how to properly pronounce it- trust all is well there.

My '87 ASC Formula

Ordered it new in '86, still have it, LB9 5-speed WS6 with every available option but subwoofer speakers. Has a little garage rash here and there, but it's like a member of the family now.

Hope you likeee-likeee

Re: Convertible Photography

Sure does look familiar! The paint came out so shiney and smooth the reflections kill the pictures. It's almost like taking a picture of a mirror. I'm waiting for an overcast day because the Carolina blue sky shows in my paint and lightens the blue, even in the new pic above that I took near sunset. Your's is a 91, right? Is it med quasar blue or a different blue? I thought the med quasar blue was new for 92.

I saw a 91 z28 vert at a car show a couple of weeks ago where I was showing mine, and I was surprised to see that there are quite a few differences between the two. I figured Chevy would have kept everything the same between 91 and 92 because of 92 being the last year for the third-gen, but that's not the case. The biggest change is the back seat seatbelt setup, it was completely different than mine and his car had no courtesy lights under the speakers like mine (which could just be and option package thingy). Another big difference that puzzled me was his 91 had a trunk pull-down motor and the tonnue cover switch is on the console, is yours like that too? My tonnue cover switch is next to the "pop" slide in the back seat area and I don't have a pull down motor setup.

There were a few things I wish Chevy would have done with decals (or lack of) on our cars. I would have loved to see the black Heritage deck stripes available with the blue (especiallly since it has a black top) and I always liked the IROC logo on the door on the older Z's ("Z28" in the IROC font may look kewl) and the tri-color pinstripe down low above the spoilers like on your IROC. Someone asks me everytime I drive my car "is that an IROC?". If my car wasn't so original, I would have the door decals done. I may still do it, they are always removable, besides, I left my door mouldings off anyway, as I understand only the 1LE or B4C cars came moulding delete in 92. I can also scratch another original part off my list (this makes three), I took a double rock hit to the windshield on the way home from my first car show and had to have it replaced. Oh well, at least it didn't hit the paint! Safelight did an excellent job, the windshield even came with a new, outer rubber gasket that looks great!

Oh yeah, pics on the 96....I was supposed to do that yesterday and forgot, I'll get those up in the next few minutes....thanks for the reminder!

Re: Convertible Photography

Yea mine is a '91, and the blue is called Ultra Blue Metallic. I believe it is almost exactly the same as your color blue, possibly just a tad lighter though.

The key to getting good pictures is having a good camera and using lighting (or lack there of) to your advantage. If the paint is shiny you will have reflections no matter what, unless it is an over-cast day, but a good photographer will tell you over-cast is not the optimal time to shoot a car. This was taken by a professional:

And my tonneu cover release is on the center console between the window switches, and it DOES have a power trunk release. Also, no interior lighting under the rear speakers, and my rear seat belts are a two piece belt, the shoulder strap latches onto the lap belt latch, or you can retract the shoulder strap back into the tonneu cover and just use the lap belt.

I kind of agree on the lack of "Z28" advertisement on the '91/'92 cars, but at the same time, I think they look super sleek the way they are because of the hood blisters and the rocker panel emblems are a sort of stainless steel look instead of the metallic paint look on the IROC's. If you can look at an IROC-Z up close in person you'll see what I'm talking about. One way I changed up the exterior on my car was by hand-making a custom grill using a rocker panel emblem and some black mesh. Oh and another thing I did was sprayed the headlight buckets gloss black instead of leaving them satin the way they were stock.

Beautiful car, but some will call me biased...anyway, my 92 rear seat belts are one piece like the front belts. Interesting about the differences....can't wait to meet up with you one day and get pics, might be a great reason for a road trip!

Yea, I've hosted 2 get-together's at my house now, one was this past July, and the other was 2 summers ago. That would be cool if you could bring the car out here for that, I had like 15 cars this year and we went to a car show at my church that had 1,200 + people coming through there. It was a blast.

I'm planning on bringing my car down to Bowling Green, KY for the Fbody Gathering next year, as long as they have it there and not at Indy like they did this year. My LSX swap should be done by January (I'm hoping anyways), so it will have already been broken in for the trip to Kentucky. That would be a good one to meet up at too.

Re: Convertible Photography

here's picture of my vert, was at body shop thats why it was missing fog light valence. Under the knife right now, getting 355 LT-1 never mind the single stripe, the guy who painted the car didn't pay attention to the fact that there was two stripes on the trunk of the car when he painted it.

Re: Convertible Photography

I actually kind like the single stripe... It does not look out of place IMHO. Now you need some hockey Stick stripes on the sides

Re: Convertible Photography

Kat, I love that color! Very nice! Had that color on a 73 Monte Carlo I had, it is beautiful! Can't remember the name of it though....seemed like it had copper or sand in the name, what is it? I think it's a 1976 color, but can't remember. Well, it is one of my favorite colors ever! Your picture is very nice, but for those who have never seen that color, it awesome in person too! Looks great in any light.

Blue, let me know if you have a cruise-in next year. Lord willing, I'll be there!

Re: Convertible Photography

KAT would have to reply to this, but I think the color may be the original color for 1988, there was a coppery orange color It was called Medium Orange (Metallic), just over 3000 cars made in 1988 with that color. The color is almost identical to the "Sunset Orange" of the later 2000-2002

Re: Convertible Photography

Wow thanks guys. The color is actually Copperhead. If ya ever watched the show "Trucks" on the speed channel when Stacey David was on there. He built that 68 or so C10 truck called "Copperhead" and had the paint mixed for him. He was nice enough to post the formula on what is used in the paint. Back when I got the car I thought it would be a cool color to spray the car along with the dodge pearl black stripes.
