Help diagnosing sfc issue

I had TDS subframe connectors installed last summer, along with the wonderbar. The plan was to have the sfcs welded in, but they ended up being bolted in because the "professional" I was working with was suffering from a bad case of scope creep (a.k.a. "trying to make me take it in the wazoo") during the install.

As a result, I have two issues:

1) the sfcs were installed while the chassis was only 20% loaded, instead of fully loaded as specified in the instructions (because that's how the "professional" always does them).

2) the exhaust is banging against the right side sfc when anyone over 150 lbs is sitting in the passenger seat. Oddly, this seems to go away when the car warms up (possibly exhaust is not attached correctly).

My plan is to get the sfcs welded in this spring. The approach and departure angle of my driveway was just enough to kill the "tight" feeling of the bolted in sfcs about two weeks after the install.

My questions are:

1) Have others had exhaust interference with these sfcs when carrying a passenger?

2) Do I need to have the sfcs "reseated" with the chassis fully loaded before having the sfcs welded?

3) Could the fact that the chassis was only 20% loaded when the sfcs were installed be contributing to my exhaust/sfc contact when a passenger is in the car?

Any suggestions are appreciated--I need all the help I can get.

Re: Help diagnosing sfc issue

1) I've used Spohn SFC's with no issues

2) Yes

3) Yes

Find a shop that has a drive on lift. The fact that the SFC's are only bolted in, with the car partially weighted has made the problems associated with bolt in SFC's much worse.

A good shop will have a drive on lift. They will use jacks to brace the SFC's tight against the bottom of the car and make sure there are no interference issues with the exhaust.

Good luck

I have those same SFC's. I did not bother with the bolts I just took it to a shop and had them welded in. About a week after SFC's I put on my exhaust system. I had no problems with the SFC's interfereing with the exhaust in any way.

To answer your other two questions Yes, and Yes!

Take your car to a reputable shop and have them welded in with the chassis fully loaded.

Re: Help diagnosing sfc issue

Just to let you guys know, my powder-coater got the colors reversed when he coated my last batch of these SFC's. As a result I've got a TON (OK, slight exaggeration) of the gloss red powder-coated SFC's in stock and few gloss black. I've eliminated the normal $12 adder for Gloss Red. So for the moment you can get gloss red for the same price as gloss black.

Re: Help diagnosing sfc issue

i installed SSM subframe connectors on my car, my exhaust hit the SFC, so I heated up the tube and bent it away from the SFC. It was due to the fact that the tube was the 3" SLP headers... Any exhaust shop should be able to heat it up and move it for you, I would not let them cut it off and relocate it...
