Clear decklid protector
So I remember reading a thread sometime last year about the clear sticker thing that goes along the tonneau cover under the rear window to protect the paint. I had gone to a local dealership and had agreed with another poster that the sticker had been discontinued. Well it has. But now that I've gotten a job at a different Chev dealership I've done more searching and there are still at least 150 of those decals out there. Any dealership can order it through a company called Vintage Parts Inc. They buy out a ton of GM's old stock. Just an FYI. The part number is 12520107. There are tons of thirdgen parts hanging out all over the country at dealerships as old stock and at VPI. Hoods, bezels, pigtails, cables, switches, etc. Even random stuff like aluminum drums.

What timing, I am getting a quote on having Van Nuys Peel fixed and need one of these. I called my local dealer with your information, they told me to call Vintage myself at 1 877 846 8243 and order it from them, when I called Vintage told me to order as an individual you need to go online at WWW.VPARTSINC.COM so it is out there to be purchased - or try your local GM Dealer, maybe yours is more helpful.
Thanks for the Post

Re: Clear decklid protector
Beware. In some cases the old original stock of this clear "decal" will be discoloured due to aging. And how it was stored over the years will also make a big difference.
Some owners have found that buying a new sheet of Clear Bra or a section of clear 3M application and cutting it to pattern will be both cheaper and look better.
This may or may not be the case depending on the original condition.

Re: Clear decklid protector
Good point about the discoloration.
Do a search with words "Clear" and "Tonneau" and you can find a thread about discoloration.
I myself am having a hard time justifying $180 for a big clear sticker, I am going to look to a sign shop that does vinyl graphics and see what they have to offer, will keep everyone posted. Might take some time, I am in no rush. Might also talk to the guy at the body shop about the clear bra option.

I do believe you need the part #'s to find what you need. BTW, just for future reference, all capitals are equivelent to shouting/yelling.

I'm working on getting my boss to approve a sponsor position here on TGO so that we can offer cost + 10% to all TGO members on all GM stuff.

blkiroc87, go to the website, and put the part # (12520107) in the box next to the submit in the lower left corner and click on submit, or try the link below. To buy it, or even see the price you will need to set up an account and log in, I did set up an account, it does not ask for anything to personal.
You can buy after you set up account and log in on the website using a credit card.
Just remember what other have said about possible yellowing, I am not endorsing, I did not buy one.
iansane, keep us posted on your progress with hooking up TGO Members with the decal.

I did find a list of part numbers and did get some parts to come up. I'm actually looking for a new set of 87 rims. I have the original part numbers but nothing found in the search. Thanks scoobydoo

Re: Clear decklid protector
There is one on Ebay, ends today, last I checked it was at $91.
I am taking my car in to have the peel fixed the week after next, I talked with the shop and they are going to put on a spray on protection, Armor something I think it was, they said it was new and stays somewhat soft and flexible. What the heck I am going to give it a try, just can't see spend the money on a sticker, it was designed to go on the front of cars, like the adhesive clear bra.
Check out my car domain site for the before and after, right now I just have up the before, car goes in the shop on the 4th of February.

Re: Clear decklid protector
I spoke to Kurt at White Racing Products. He has these GM 12520107 Protector Top Lid, as New Old Stock. He confirmed inventory and has 30 on hand. He confirmed condition is new not turning yellow as some may be concerned with age. His price is $176 but will give a 25% discount for purchasing 10 or more. Price would then be $132. Do we have 9 or more people interested to do a buy in for that price? I would be 1 of 10.

Re: Clear decklid protector
Iv'e been dealing with ASC convertibles for some time now. I have my decal guy do the clear front bumper deal cutting it to form. Those OLD decals are worth about $10...$190...$130...anything over $20 is insane and not worth the clear vinyl is made of. Sorry not paying 1980 cocaine prices for inferior old parts

Re: Clear decklid protector
I just had my car repainted and decided to not put the sticker on. Even a nice sticker looks like crud after a few years. I have my top down 99% of the time so if I put it up when I take it back down I wipe it clean. So far so good and no nasty looking sticker.
