Yep, just get a hardtop or T-Top. Trunk space is actually greater because you have the space in the hatchback area in addition to the "trunk" area to store stuff.
FOGEDABOUTIT , if you do some guys from jersey and chicago will be around to break your kneecaps . on a serious note please do not do it . plenty of people would trade a good ride for a ragged vert. .
besides, i think it would cost more to convert back to a hard or t-top than just buying a hard top car. a decent one can be had around here for about 700 bux
or be a pioneer of sorts (as i have yet to see any confirmed results) and make a removable hardtop...you will be much happier with the results when that warm summer day comes and you wanna "drop the top"...or better yet "ditch" the top. This way you have the benefits of a hardtop when wanted, and you can enjoy the vert top when you'd like to. If your serious enough to invest a butt load of money into converting your vert into a hard top...i would spend that money towards making a removable hardtop as it will probably cost the same. just my two cents
but ending on what you have asked...i have yet to see someone with a vert transform it into a hardtop...as mentioned it will be cheaper to find a hardtop car in decent shape to swap whatever you need over into instead of molesting a ragtop as you will need to reshape a lot and prob end up welding almost half the car..

92 Heritage RS Camaro, one of ~8200 in counting, will hopefully be running in time for NYThirdGen 4th of July car cruise on Deer Park Ave, LI.
Convert a vert to a hard-top...... Are you CRAZY???? Sell the vert to someone who will appreciate it and go get a hard-top. If you want trunk space go get a Dodge Carivan. Rick
i mean why would anyone want to chop down a hard top (anything) to make it look clean and sleek and unique right? ( i mean ask the guys who made those cars ZZ Top drove).......
thanks GTA....but you made the same mistake i have done! lol...i just read 1-24....not the 2004 year! anyways, yea, that's what i was talking about. i knew i'd seen it somewhere. i think the sebring has a convertible hardtop. hmmm, i wonder what bozo bit that idea when they were presenting it to the chrysler gurus...

Reason: Automerged Doublepost
I really have to wonder if this guy is for real... come on, the whole thing is insane and you all bit
"I have considered making a fiberglas Hard top for my 89 Vert. Basically it would resemble a C5 Z06 style rear window, the trunk would still function...
The features I would like to incorperate would be:
- Fiberglas top - The shell would need to be painted.
- Plexiglas rear window -
THis will reduce weight to the assembly and 2 easy to produce. THe down side is there would not be a rear defroster.
- install normal headliner material. Obviously it would have window seals.
I considered making a speaker port on the sail panels, but I am not sure that would pull off well.
What do you think, is it a good idea or ust stupid?
John

Speakers wouldn't work too well for a seamless integration. You'd have to connect/disconnect some wires each time you take the top on/off. It'd also be a lot of R&D, and you might never be happy with the finished product. If you really want a hardtop, you should just buy one. Verts are a rare bread, especially an '89 Formula 350 Vert, and it would be sad to know there's one less out there.
As it is, I don't think I've seen a Vert F-body yet. I've heard tale of them, and seen pictures, but never seen one in person.
