Car: 1989 Pontiac Formula 350(Maui Blue) Engine: 355 TPI,accell superram, full roller Transmission: Street/strip 700R4 Axle/Gears: Australian 9, 3:27 ratio | third brake light lens | Hey guys, Just picked up a 92 Firebird vert for my wife and it is missing the third brake light lens from the center section of the rear spoiler. It has a piece of red tape there now. Does anyone know of a company that reproduces them? I checked at my local GM dealership and they said it was a discontinued part. Is any other year or model interchangeable for the lens? Thanks for all your help!!! | | | |

Upon further investigation, and taking the center section of the spoiler off, all I have is the wiring coming to where the third brakelight is supposed to go with the factory harness connector. I am missing everything else. It is just an open area.
Question is, can I use the entire third brake light assembly off any 1988-92 camaro or firebird to plug into my wiring connector or is it specific to a firebird vert. I know the 87 third brakelight is different after doing a forum search. I really want to get this fixed as a piece of red tape where the brakelight is supposed to be really looks like crap. Thanks guys |

Any help or input would be appreciated. I am trying to get her 92 vert ready for the Trans Am Nationals end of August. I am missing the whole third brakelight assembly behind the rear spoiler including the lens.
Is anything from any firebird or camaro interchangeable to get it working or am I s**t out of luck? I can buy a compete center section with brakelight from Ted Gerlach, he has the part I need, but my spoiler center section is still ok. I just need the guts for the brakelight and lens. Thanks guys |

I found an 89 iroc spoiler(non vert) center section but it looked thinner across the center than my 92 vert. will this work on my 92 vert. It appears as if the angle on the camaro spoiler is different than mine and it looks like the center section of the camaro will not match to my 92 firebird vert side spoiler ends????
My spoiler center section is good, I just need the 3rd brakelight lens and guts to go with it to plug in to the factory harness plug in.
What else interchanges as I am at a loss right now to fix it?????????????
----------
Willie, Lonsal , since you are third gen vert gurus please help as I would like to get this fixed asap

the one I found is off a t top car and it looks like a thinner width across trunk than mine does on my 92 vert. if it will line up with my left and right corner pieces, I will go back and buy it and have it painted to match.
Thanks for your help,

Thanks for your help,
Joe | I'm confused by your post. The title says "third brake light lens" yet the discussion seems to be confined to the center spoiler section. The center spoiler section on a coupe is not the same as a convertible. As I wrote previously, as far as I know the center section of a 1988-92 camaro convertible is the same as on a 1991-92 Firebird convertible. The earlier 1989 Firebird convertible used a modified coupe piece. The side trim pieces for the camaro convertible and firebird convertibles are not interchangeable. The firebird ones are wider to accomodate the wider body. But the trunk lid, tonneau cover and center spoiler piece is the same for camaro & firebird 'verts.
Now if you want to talk about the third brake light lens it is the same for 1988-92 camaro convertible, 1987-90 camaro coupe and 1991-92 firebird convertible. 1987 camaro convertible used one from a Ford. Willie can fill you in more on the application ASC borrowed it from. For that reason only the center spoiler section is unique to the the 87 camaro convertible. The spoiler is being produced by the aftermarket. Just make sure it has the correct cutout for your center third brake light.

I'm not going to edit my prior post since it has info others may need regarding other interchangeable parts.
For your application, you can use the entire third brake light lens and mount from any 1987-90 Camaro coupe. The spoiler center section is different on coupes & convertibles though. The convertibles continued to use this lens assembly through 1992 but the coupes for Firebird and Camaro changed to a different one mounted high on the inside of the rear hatch glass.
I hope you have enough info from these posts to get a lens assembly.

| Re: third brake light lens I still didn't see a clear comparison above. I have an '88 Camaro convertible and all the pictures I've seen seem to show that the center portion of the rear spoiler is the same as the '88 Iroc coupe. They both have the brake light and all else looks the same. Anyone know and agree? One of the fist response seemed to agree and the convertible photo is identical to mine.
Thanks,
Dean |

Mine is cracked and I would sure like it to look new now that it has been repainted (original). Thanks for any help. I'm looking for one more item and it is the top folding instruction decal that is under the tonneau cover. Mine is there, but needs replaced. I called and emailed ASC but they are slow to no response. Thanks, Topless87 |

This lamp is a Ford part, used on mid-80s Ford station wagons, i.e. Country Squire. Although it appears to be bolted to the spoiler itself, it is not. It uses a bracket that bolts to the lid within the spoiler, which makes it "float". The assembly itself was delivered to ASC who performed the convertible conversion. They would literally sand the "Ford" (with oval) off the lens, then re-polish it. All remaining text remained."
