Hey guys,I bought a rear spoiler off ebay.Auction stated it came off an 89 convertible.My car is an 88.I assumed all verts used the same trunk spoiler.It is nothing like mine,it also doesn't match the one on an 83 hardtop I have as a parts car.It is the correct width so I think it is a Camaro spoiler just not like mine.In the pictures mine has the black stripes.
Is there a difference in rear spoilers in either the verts or hardtops? I want to make sure before I get attitude with the seller.
looks like a hard top spoiler to me . my 89 vert has the same one urs does the one with the stripe's. well it use to but i mold in a 88 sportcoupe spoiler. may not be the seller's fault no telling what pll do to cars .
I thought it was a hardtop type also but it is more flat shaped,not as much kick-up.
I never thought about it coming from a non ASC conversion.I am going to email the seller and see what may be going on here. Just wanted to have my facts right before looking like an idiot.

Do you have any pictures of your sportcoupe spoiler? I have thought about using one of the low-rise wing style.I thought I saw a picture of one on a vert somewhere but can't remember where.

The wing-style spoilers were used on '90-and-earlier ASC Firebird 'verts, so that's probably what you saw a pic of. But if you use one of those, you'll have to find the correct quarter panel trim pieces, too, because they match-up to the ends of the wing. Those trim pieces are different than the ones made for Camaros and '91/'92 Firebirds, so the ones you have won't work.
The wing, itself, is nothing more than a standard Firebird spoiler with the ends cut-off, so that wouldn't be hard to duplicate. But finding a set of those quarter panel trim pieces might be very difficult.
I like the idea of a 1988 Camaro spoiler, too. In fact, I've got one because I've been considering that same thing. But it'll take some work to do it right.
Your best bet, IMO, is to keep looking for a spoiler that's correct for your 'vert.
Ahhh so it was you who sniped me in the last 17 seconds of that auction. I thought I was gonna get a hellava deal but I guess it turned out that it wasn't even a real convertible spoiler. You might be able to return it to the seller because it was misrepresented.

Sorry about that.I have been beat so many times on hard to find stuff I did bid late.Later that night I got sniped on a full set of vert seatbelts,so I no how you feel.Thought I was getting a good deal also.So far the seller hasn't responded to my emails about the problem.
I think I just found another one.This listing was for a hardtop 1990 Camaro.Does this mean that there was a change in the last couple of years of production?This pic shows what I mean by having a more flat shape to it.
If you're shopping for a replacement spoiler because the one on the car is damaged, I'd think repair and repainting the existing spoiler to be pretty easy.
All the mounting studs are broken off.At some point and time someone put small screws all along the bottom lip to hold it on.Also it wasn't mounted on the car when I bought it and is warped.It may be possible to fix but I don't know if I can.To pay to have it done would be more than a new one.
Cosmetics can be usually fixed with bondo, or glazing puddy.
The mounts you may be able to use epoxy... I am not sure how they were originally but you may need to get some nuts to epoxy to the bottom side, OR just get some epoxy you could drill & tap and screw directly to that... Not sure about the extent of damage on it but if your planning on replacing it anyways, it may be worth a shot to try & fix it. The way I look at things is as the one you have now is no good to you as is, and you have nothing to lose but time.
