Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

It is in HI, so I know that getting it back to the mainland would be nothing short of expensive. BUT it is a RARE car nonetheless, It looks pretty good in the pix, I have no idea what the miles are.

He has had prices from $3900 to $10,900

Someone needs to put this poor guy out of his misery.

He is asking $6900 right now, and if you could get shipping for only $1000 it may well be worth it...

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

Thanks for the tip...I'm always looking for the rare stuff. I went to his actual website and he has it listed as a white V-6, which obviously it's not. I got a shipping quote of almost 3 grand, but I'm on the East Coast. Do you guys think the car is worth the ten grand? I hate to buy without seeing it, I've been burned several times. Maybe if I decide to buy, I can find a member in HI to look at it before I shell out the bucks.

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

It is 1 of 140 ish. I decoded the Dealer order logs from ASC and I got 140 GTA's or Trans Am's with the 350 and 42 Formula 350's. Unfortunately the logs had 324 Cars total, and I could only decipher 309 as 10 cars were exported and another 5 have no Carfax/Autocheck records, so I could not trace those. I even tried Europe's carfax with no luck...

On a side note I actually have a letter from ASC that "Claimed" to have only made 10 Formula 350's and I suspect there is another letter that states a total of 50 L98 vert's total in 1989... I have no clue where they pulled those numbers from... The total number is closer to just under 200 TOTAL 350 cars made into a Vert, as there was at least 4 IROC's in 1987, but possibly no more as NONE have ever showed up to be verified.

The condition is hard to say, I did notice that it appears to have the SLP Cat-Back system on it, or one that is similar as the tips are identical to my 87 with the SLP cat-back. I noticed some stains ons the passenger seat, and I do know at least some of it was repainted as when I first saw the car the front fender was damaged. (That is when he was asking $3900)

Honestly if you want something rare then yeah, its a blast to own... Just over 600 Firebird Verts were made between 1987 & 1989, no 1990's. They were converted by ASC, and all the parts are the same as a camaro except for the obvious cosmetic changes, so parts are really not an issue, which can be an issue for the special order cars like Matrix3, Hi-Line and Autoform.

The only hard to find parts would be the rear quarter Caps or spears (depending on what you call them) and the 3rd brake light housing, which may have been used on something else. I do know that the wing was a Base wing that the ends were cut off of and filled with bondo & Painted. All other parts are basically 1989 Camaro parts, Top, interior trim, SFC's etc...

I have no clue what to value it at. Definitely worth $8K IMHO. $10K may be stretching it BUT as far as collectibility I think there is a future market as the 350 cars were NA in the Factory Verts, and Power sells...

I would like a better pic of the Drivers & passenger seat, and a better pic of the bottom of the doors where they rust is typically in the middle where the rubber window bumper stopper hits the bottom of the door. AND I would like a better pic of the Engine.

I would also like to see a pic of the top side of the trunk. The paint ASC used did not hold up as well as the original GM and I noticed the photographer neglected to get any pics of the top of the trunk. Also it may be missing a black trim piece around the base of the 3rd brake light. My car is missing it as well as I have only seen a few cars with it still intact.

whew...$3,000 to deliver...That is a lot of money. Before i spend that i would want to make sure what shape that car is in and what i am getting in to....That is a tough one being so far away.. Good luck ZMAN if you decide to pursue it.

Buy a ticet on price line and go out there for a couple of days. It is sunny and 80, just got back. Get a hotel in Wakiki and party it up. If your sigle and your job sucks you might decide to buy it and NOT ship back.LOL

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

Look at it and make an offer... It only takes time.

The car is worth every penny IMHO of $8500 if it is as clean as he says.

Look for rust in the normal places, if you could get it for $7K that would be a real deal IMHO...

92PurpleHaze,
I have a question for you. You state you have a 1990/L98/CC1 car, Am I reading your Personal Information correctly?

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

lol yes.... I had a 90 l98 g92 but crashed it. I love 90 irocs so much I set out to find another to swap the drivetrain into. All I could find was a lb9 cc1 car. Now theres some more l98 90s popping up for sale right now for cheap (<$2000) but I'm too far ($$) into this project anyway. Anyways I would love to buy that GTA but dont have the feds for it right now. Im actually trying to get rid of my 74 olds to buy a ragtop third gen. The price is totally worth it but outta my range

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

If I had a place to put it and the extra money set aside I would honestly consider the Black GTA.

If someone calls on it, get me the last 5 digits of the VIN, I will let you know if it is on "the list" It should be.

Re: Could someone buy this HI 89 L98 GTA Vert?

2-5 years ago, I would have bought both of those cars for just about any price.

Thank you, economy... now I get to sit on the sidelines and watch them pass right by. One thing I love about this site... at least I can watch them go to good homes, which 95% makes up for the fact that I can't have them.
