Speaker Sizes

Maybe I'm losing it, but what sizes does the convertible take stock?

Has anyone had any succesful attempts to put larger speakers in there that still mount flush (not trying to put in 6x9).

I've got an 89 Camaro RS convertible. I had taken out the round 5 inch speakers and replaced them with 5 X 7. The original holes were F'd up and definetely not circular. I custom cut the hole for the full speaker sound and had to drill new holes for the mounting brackets. The magnets were very close to the metal though.

Be careful not to have the magnet touch or it's not gonna work.

The hole will probably have to be recut to maximize the sound quality.

I'll try and post some pics of what I did.

PICS and speaker models would be great.

I'm not interested in the whole 6x9 fiasco, but 5x7 would be good

I haven't had time to take the stuff apart and take pictures yet. I'm going to wrap that panel in leather so when I do that I'll take pictures.

Re: Speaker Sizes

I just ordered infinity 6.5 kappas for my 92. Don't know if they will fit but I have a grinder if they don't. Pictures of what others have done would be great.

I wouldnt grind anything behind the speakers. All of that is structural bracing added by ASC.
