Seems they always broke at the stem with the threaded end. The flat part that showed in the interior never broke, just the stem that held it in place.
If yours has the same problem and all that is missing is the stem, drill it out and replace it with a flat or button head srew that can be painted for color match. I havn't replaced mine in over two years now and, although it isn't stock, it looks like it was made that way from the factory. If you are not showing the car, you may want to try this.
