vert rear seat replacement

I am aware that 4th gen seats will fit nicely in 3rd gen, but how about the rear seat in the vert. Will the rear seat also fit out of a 4th gen? If so, does the seat need to be from a 4th vert or can it be from any body?

Re: vert rear seat replacement

It appears as so the answer is yes. Doing a search found this topic. It provides some details as well as the last post did it in a vert.

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/in...seats-fit.html (97 rear seats fit in a 3rd gen?)

Another good link . . .
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/in...gen-seats.html (4th gen seats)

It seems that the biggest concern isn't if it's a vert or not, but whether is the 3rd gen rear seat was originally split or not. If it's split, then there may be an issue dealing with a bar that runs across the driveshaft hump. But that's all covered in the above.

Re: vert rear seat replacement

I've done the split to solid 4th gen rear seat conversion & the support for split seats wasn't a problem. I just left it there.

Re: vert rear seat replacement

The fourth gen rear seat back is about one inch shorter than the 3rd gens, not a big deal but there will be gap above the seat back that wasnt there before.

How do you pull out the rear split seats without removing the bar in the center? I am doing a 3rd gen to 4th gen seat swap and the new seats are solid.

To get the bar out of the middle, you'd have the chisel out the spot welds.

But I put the 4th gen solid rear seat in & never took those pivot bars out. I just left them under there. Doesn't hurt anything to leave them there.

In my GTA I have now, I left the split rears in there. Always nice to be able to only fold down 1 side & leave the other side still as a seat. I'd suggest leaving the split rears in & only swapping out the fronts. Might hafta reupholster the rears if your changing seat colors though.
