New here with new IROC

Well new here and just got a new project. Its a 86 IROC Z Vin#1G1FP87H3GN14117. needs a little work. the dumb *** took the tpi 305 out and put in a 350 carb. So im going to put back a TPI. Im not fond of the hood so I may get a original style. They also put in a digital dash and I have to do some wiring. Im going to put a new top on it and in black , totally redo the interior . debating either or not to pint the tan wheels to match the blue and paint all the tan out of as well. Since i really get the original value out of it im going to make it a play toy i never had. This is my first camero as well as 1st convertible IS there a thread that has wire diagrams that i can print off?

Re: New here with new IROC

According to the vin you posted, that car never had a tpi in it, it came from the factory with an LG4, a carbed 305, unless the seller can produce receipts for a motor I would guess that it is still the original 305 motor.

Re: New here with new IROC

hmmm ok cause my buddy said that the bulb looking thing up front on driver side was what control the throttle cable. I tried looking up the production #'s on it but seen nothing. Is this considered a sports roof? Reason I thought it had a TPI cause of all the wiring that was unplugged. Well then . how hard would it be to make it into a TPI ? I found a complete system, wiring , distributer, cdi box everything for $450 and im thinking about getting it. Also I need to find the original top cover, are those are to find cause I really dont like the current set up. looks cheeezy

Re: New here with new IROC

swapping in a TPI or any other injection system is not hard in my books. You just need to gather everything you will need and put it on there. Wiring would probably be the hardest/most time consuming part. Other than that, to be sure what you have you need to check the block numbers. You could have a 350 but my bet is on a 305. Sounds like your car was butchered by the previous owner and just converted to carb.

TPI setups without the wiring, and the computer usually run in the 150-200$ range, harnesses are expensive, around 250 usually for a good uncut one, computers are not that hard to come by and are usually decently priced.

Good news is that I have full power to everything, even cranked the motor over. The digital dash looks funky but its growing on me.All i need id new plugs and wires and Ether lots of Ether .lol I checked the oil and it looks brand new, which surprised me.

I always thought that hood was ugly as sin, and gives an extremely cheap appearance to the car. I would keep the the gold and blue color scheme though.

well the hood is definitely going bye bye. not sure about the gold and blue though. the trunk area plastics are black and painted gold. I have a buddy that owns a Maaco shop so the paint job will be cheap. he is the #1 shop in midwest and does a great job.

The gold and blue looks nice on that. I've seen many a vert and many that look sick in black (which is a popular vert color) but i've not seen to many that go with the blue and gold. If your looking for some inspiration, go to http://badassiroc.com , theirs a whole gallery of just verts. Welcome to third gen. (try not to use the word "rare" )

I have always hated that hood, and for some reason they keep making them, and people keep buying them

Hate is such a strong word...I have one on my 86 and I like it...I get about 60-40 compliments to complaints...but it's your car and you should have the hood style you want, not the previous owners style...
