Servicing Hood Mechanism. Oil/Greasing?

******EDIT******* I mean convertible top and *not* Hood

Hey guys.

So do we need to keep anything oiled or greased in our mechanism. Clearly we need to be careful of getting anything on the convertible top. I was thinking of the main latches on the front windscreen pillar. Could help with squeaks.

One more thing. The main rear rubber seal on mine is old and has come away near the front of the top nearest the back of the side windows. It means with the top up, the little bits of rubber (unless I tuck them away) flap in the wind. Is it straight forward to replace this? Would I have to completely remove all signs of the existing seal before gluing in a new one? Any advise appreciated.

Thanks- it's sunny in England. May have to cruise tonight!!

Re: Servicing Hood Mechanism. Oil/Greasing?

First thing is most Americans dont use the term "hood" when refering to the convertible top. Being here in Australia I am familiar with it. I would use a white grease on the mechanism and on the rubber weatherstrips I would use silicon spray on a cloth and rub it into the seal. If you plan to replace the seals, you will need to clean the area very well and then start the process. I dont think you will find it difficult to do it. Hope it helps.

metro makes a replacement convertible seal kit... Talking to some people I respect their opinion, apparently it is a reasonably nice kit.
