Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

So lucky to find me some TA fourthgen seats. They are near mint and look great. below are some before and after shots, what do you all think? I'm getting some black mats made up so that will be one less tan to contend with

The question is, on the 4th gen back seats, the top section is shallower than the 3rd gen seats so there is now a gap between the top of the back seat and the rear tonneau cover. Anyone been down this road and anything you can suggest? Any help welcome.

Before-

Now-

Rear, showing gap-

Looks like a different tan... Apart from that are they more comfortable? I was thinking of getting 4th gen seats but the ones from Hawks... Those black/tan ones... Damn those ones look nice..

In your pic, the new ones look gray.

Wanna get rid of more tan? Do what I did & swap out your tan arm rests for black ones. It'll make for a good tan & black theme going, rather than ALL black or ALL tan.

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

Thanks for the feedback guys. It is definitely a greyish tan, made worse by the fact the tan is very tangy in my car. I thought of black door rests/pulls (thanks for the idea too) and black mats and then do you think it will look ok?

As it's a vert the seats are more in-your-face as the top is often down. Therefore the stockers really make the car look old.

I was so excited now I'm concerned I've done the wrong thing

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

I put 4th gen seats in my 91 TA convertible. The tans are not the same so I had a leather company here in Australia dye them for me. Now, they are the same color as the third gen were. Also, the 4th gen ones came from a 2001 TA and they sit more firm which I like. By the way third gen seats are tan and I think they call the 4th ones neutral.

That's refreshing to hear, but how did they dye the rears of the front seats? They are hard plastic. Also how did you deal with the gap at the rear? Finally do you have any pictures? Many thanks,

The guy took them completely apart and dyed them. The backs of the seats were black and I left them that way. Will get pics soon.

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

I honestly think the older ones look better. if you can put them back in i say thats the best way to go sorry. but if you wanna brake up the tan here is what i would do paint the small vents black, paint seatbelt latch black, black armrest/ mats, and if you are going go back to the older seats where the white stripes like are on the seat maybe some one could die them black. just a idea.

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

when I first seen this thread, the first pic i saw were your originals.
I thought "wow" those look great!
But we see what you are trying/want to do.
the 4th gens by far are more comfortable.

What year ta seats are they? they look to be 97..
ill take em off your hands if you decide to go back to the other ones.
Just pm me.
If you could dye them they would look better. You can buy interior dye that works like paint. comes in a regular spray can like spray paint. I have used them on cloth. Not sure about vinyl or leather.
These were originals in a 79 TA.
To show you what you can do with the fabric dye. You can buy it at any local auto store.

You didn't do anything wrong, except taking a bad picture!

Retake the 4th gen seat pic so that is shows the color good & I think most people here will change their mind.

I am totally happy with my switch from tan to black arm rests, but leaving the door panels tan. A touch of black to break up the solid tan, but not too much. Some day, I want black seats as well, if not just portions done in black.

your interior plastics are tan, the 4th gen seats you have are beige, the same color as the interior of my 92, which your 4th gen seats would look really nice in.

Thanks guys- wow their is a definite swing to my old seats here!

What about if I dyed my new seats to a more tanny color? Would that do it?

Don't forget this is still early days, no black mats, black armrests etc.

What about the gap on top of the rear seats?

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

Hi guys,

Well I've put the old seats back in but not before going for a drive with the drivers 4th gen still in. It feels so good with the newer seats but not that much better. Also I seem to sit higher not lower? So with the sun out and the top dropped what is your final thought on this? Here are some more pics, I hope Stephen is right and I just took bad pictures before?-

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

Definitely look like a lighter gray, closer to the tan. In the first pic, I thought they were GRAY. Like a dark gray.

Are they electric? I had some identical to those, but in black leather, for a couple of weeks. They were electric & when I first put them in, my head touched the headliner, because they were adjusted up. I took them out because of the headroom issue (mainly) & black leather seats with Texas summer heat don't go together very well. HOT!

Hello,

That color is called Neutral. I have the exact same seats and color in my red vert. But I changed the carpet to a matching neutral color.
Saw you posted them for sale - I would've been all over them if I was closer as they look to be nicer than mine

Just my personal 2 cents while I do like the "idea" of having 4th gen seats myself, I think your original seats are way too nice to do this swap like you are doing. Even if your 4th gens seem more comfortable, the original seats just go well with your car and look better than most stock 3rd gen seats. Good luck with your decision.

Thank guys much appreciated. Decided to stick to my 3rd gen seats. Much as I loved the 4th gen it ain't worth changing the entire character of the car to accommodate them. Difficult, emotional few days I tell ya!

I can imagine... I think you made a great choice keeping those stockers, IMO they truly are beautiful seats.. Much better than my cloth tan seats... The only way I'd see 4th gen seats working is if they're custom made to YOUR color then that would be sick! But eXpensive!

I'm glad that you're sticking with the originals. They're in great shape and the off-color of the newer seats was driving me nuts. And just like you said, the 3rd gen seats keep the car's original character.

Good choice with sticking with the stocks. Thats a pretty cool looking color combo on those seats. Goes well with the entire car.

I agree with sticking with the stockers. While the pro with 4th gen seats is they are found to be more comfy by most people, the con with the colour appearance outweighs it in this case.

That's what true friends do. Give you the straight goods.

If it was dyed to match, it would be pretty cool.

Re: Just installed 4th gen seats to vert. Questions?

Hi again team

Another quick question. I'm looking to replace my seatbelt buckle stems.. I can find tan and dark tan. Would dark tan work or did they make another shade in Beechwood?

Cheers

The ripples in the 4th gen seats.....Those are the same as the Ultima seats in GTAs, except that the headrest has been changed.

Was not aware of that - good to know! For some reason to me it just seems to stick out, doesn't really fit the rest of the seat
